Ported barrel for CW9 & P9 models

Has anyone tried/purchased the 4" ported barrel for the CW9 or P9? This must protrude from the front of the slide since it's 4" and must vent gas. Anyway, here's a link if you haven't seen that: http://www.kahr.com/Guide-Rods-and-B...P9-and-CW9.asp

most shooters here go with magnaporting of their guns if they want a ported gun. Not many have gone with this barrel because either it doesnt look as good as magnaporting, directly ports exhaust from the barrel directly in the line of sight, adds weight and length thus deminishing the ccw aspect of a Kahr, and or a few reports of fitment problems with this Kahr item. I like the reversibility of it though.

magna port it and do it right, u will not regret it. My PM9, K9, J frame model 60 and G19 are all magna ported..

But to get a revolver magnaported, you have to deal with FFL transfers, don't you?

I saw one forsal in the local gun store - it protrudes about 1/2" and has a slanted cut for a port - looks ugly - but does it work?

I been wishing they'd come out with them for the .40 or .45, I'd sure be willing to give it a try. I like the idea of being able to return it to stock condition. Some people will not buy a ported pistol because it could go off in their face if there was a struggle for the pistol. I suppose that COULD happen, but how often? I hope to have a bullet or two in the BG before he get's that close. And some people don't like the flash, noise and gasses escaping upward.

I have (1) ported gun - a .44 mag. - not my SD gun. Why in the world would someone intentionally direct muzzle flash up into the sight picture of a self defense gun?

I'm with you. There is no question that there is extra flash and that it could be dangerous in a close retention situation. Who needs the extra noise and cleaning duties? An idea suitable in some competitive events, but in SD, can't see it. Either practice more or get a more suitable gun rather than look to porting for taming your muzzle flip.

I was more curious about the effectiveness but I actually also tend to agree it not necessary for a smaller gun used for SD. I was watching a guy shoot a ported .454 Casull revolver at the range last weekend and I was thinking that was definitely an application which required it. The recoil on my CW40 is certainly snappy but doesn't necessarily require taming. The P9 requires it even less and I had some doubt about porting a small barrel.

Just got the ported barrel for my cw9 and am very happy with it. It upgrades the cw9 to the polygonal barrel, reduces felt recoil, fits and functions perfectly and and is extremely accurate.

The gun still fits in my DeSantis holster and muzzle blast is not a problem. I can change to the shorter barrel if I want to carry a 'smaller' gun.
