I've just finished breaking in my CW45 and OK'd it for defensive use when lo and behold I come upon a P45 in my LGS. It's used without box and comes with one 6 round and one 7 round mag and the price is $399. Is this a good price? The slide is the stainless one and looks like it's been polished up a bit. Aren't the slides on th P45 kind of matte SS? It also has a shiny slide stop and a shiny steel mag release. Are these also standard on the P45?

I'm really tempted by this one and would appreciate any comments. :biggrin1:

At that price, I'd jump!

I'd wonder what other garage gunsmithing was done to the P45. Just being cautious. Can you shoot it first? Price is very good.

The only thing better than one Kahr is two of them.

I have a CW9, but If I see a used P9 for a good price I'll jump on it. Then after I'm sure it's good to go put the CW9 for sale.

If it is in CA I'd be very interested at that price, but I would have to handle it first. The price is very good, maybe too good for a top condition P45. My lusting for a P45 says take a chance and buy it.

There is only so much ($ / need / room) for guns. At this point I can't see the need for two that are basically identical / fill the same need.

Well, I went back to the shop and they let me fire one full magazine thru the gun using my Winchester Ranger T 230gr ammo. The first round was a light strike and didn't fire and the last 6 fired normally with all rounds in a ragged hole at 21 feet. The unfired case looked like a very light strike. Could it be that the striker was just gooked up from sitting and worked itself loose after the first trigger pull?

Would you guys still consider this gun? Should I be able to get Kahr to send me a new striker assembly without sending the gun back? Opinions?

Does that store ship across the country? :)

Very good price. Return to shop and buy immediately. Sell CW45 and buy a CM9.

Yes, I'd consider it.

What did the other six primer dimples look like?

Yes, you could replace the striker and still be ahead, especially if you replace it yourself. A good cleaning may be the ticket too. Get a new recoil spring while you're at it.

I'd say buy it. The light strike should be fixable with a good cleaning. My concern was damage from misuse or broken internals. I should add that for that price I would clean out my emergency money and pray no earthquakes, another nasty wind storm or fire until I collect enough cans to cover it.

rkammer: being the store was nice enough to let you fire it, how aout asking them if u buy it and if it is not reliable, if they will send it back for you to save alot of hassle.
I tend to agree with Ripley here, no striker is needed, just a good take downof the slide and a proper one time cleaning of that striker channel, then after that just use that cleanout hole on thebottom of the slide up by te breech face. It will keep that channel perfectly clean. The p;rice is more than excellent, Just not sure ne can fokk up the internal workings of the gun either, as most who do cosmetic stuff do it where visible.

The price for this gun is certainly right.

Well, I did go back and buy the P45! I haven't shot it any more but, broke it down and gave it a good cleaning. I'll post pics in the morning along with pics of the 7 cases I shot showing the primer hits on all 7.

I think my CW45 might be on the market soon. :D

Here are the 6 cases that did fire and one with the light strike that didn't. What do you think? The hits are a little off center but not much different than my CW45 that works 100%.

Ammo used was Winchester Ranger Tactical 230 gr.

Well, here is my new (to me) P45. S/N dates it to September 2005 says Jay at Kahr. Also photos of the 7 rounds I fired before I bought it to show the FP hits. I do like the polished slide, slide lock, and mag release and will shoot it some more after I get out from under the Holiday crunch.

Thanks for all the pre-purchase guidance, guys. :)

RK,

You did good! That was a smokin deal. I would not be too concerned about the one light strike. I would guess Kahr would send you a striker if you needed it. The gun looks great. I liked your description of shooting... "one ragged hole". That's what these guns atre all about. Great find!

Since you got such a good deal you can afford to sell me the cw45 really cheap right?
