I didn't like barrel factory finish so I polished it and the take down lever. I prefer this look a lot more than factory. Love this little pistol.

Looks good! Did you do it by hand or with a wheel?

I've never cared for bright reflective finishes on defensive handguns. If you do I have no problem with that. More than likely any serious social encounters will occur in low light conditions.

I usually don't care for it either, but the Kahr finish on barrels leaves a lot to be desired. I also felt the polishing went well with the stainless slide. I would never polish a barrel on a pistol with a blued slide.

I had my trigger, slide stop lever, barrel and extractor polished on my PM9. I think it gives it a nice touch.

A cautionary note -

Not saying this is a FOR SURE thing with Kahr, just something to think about when polishing barrels.

Nickle plating has been applied to the barrel. Why? Made me go hmm for a long time, and I figured it was corrosion prevention on the barrel - being non-stainless? The other day I was researching on a problem at work, where we have seemingly stupid application of nickle plate certain parts, and I found a series of interesting factoids. Boiled down, it comes down to nickle being applied to parts that interact with stainless steels is a way to prevent galling. Galling being the repeated micro adhesion and ripping apart of certain metals that rub against each other. Now that REALLY made me go hmmm. I had an AMT HardBaller that litereally ate its first two barrels, then held up well with its third, a Colt made "US National Match .45" that lunchboxed its way out of Fort Benning back in the 60's (or so I was told). Dont have the gun any more but big Bob never complained about it afterward. The result, looking back, being the first two STAINLESS barrels and the latter was a very soft metal blue barrel.

So... when you polish nickle... maybe go easy on it, it very well could be there for a purpose, and you dont wanna remove it, if it is.

And, yer barrel looks super... I like the look. Good job!~

Years ago they used to nickel plate revolvers They scratched from holster wear If your gun gets damaged from removing the nickel plating and leaving the stainless steel maybe the gun makers will start making barrels out of nickel

I honestly don't see how this can be an issue. The coating applied by Kahr is weak at best. My polishing went no deeper than what had already worn off in only 200 rounds. As a matter of fact the only other barrel I saw wear that fast when contacting the slide is newer non East German Sigs ( I have my opinions on the new Sigs). The reason I did this was my CM9 only has a little over 200 rounds and the barrel looked like it had more than a thousand rounds fired. It had smileys and the hood looked all scratched and scuffed. Not really what I expected, a cheap thin coat of some applied coating at Kahr. So I really think this thought of somehow going through a nickle finish is a non issue. I did not go that deep with polishing. We will see in a few thousand rounds I guess, there must be someone out there with a polished barrel that can attest to it not harming a Kahr.

I have always liked the polished "jeweled" look. Your gun looks good.

I hope that the powder residue from shooting your gun doesn't magically break down the stainless steel barrel that you polished Getting back to reality you made it look great!

Dawg gone-it Jeepster if you post that CZ one more time I'm gonna have to get one too. :D

I've been looking already but have held off due to my wife's economic stimulation package for the local economy (called Christmas shopping.)

To the OP, that polish job looks good. I like shiney, flat black, and a combination of both together.

Winchester made nickle steel barrels for their Model-12 shotguns years ago.

when i poilshed mine i thought that the finish was simply a bead blasted surface that was maybe coated with a thin finish of some sort. not sure now as when polishing the paper had a shiney residue on it. almost like a shiney paint comin off but not much at all. Also, the surfaces i polished really polished up quickly making me now think that maybe they were nickel coated. But i honetly cant see Kahr doing that on a gun with a price point as low as the cm9's. But ive been wrong before and usually am-as the wife says!
