Well, I didn't really want to go out in the 30 degree weather, but it was killing me having the new PM9 for a whole week and not yet firing it. So, I took it about 1/4 mile away from my back door here in the high desert of Nevada and braved the cold. My first impressions are pretty good, with just one issue that was probably my own fault.

I had 3 quick failure to feeds with the first round in the 7 round mag. With 6 rounds in there, there were no issues. So, after the first problems, I kept loading it with just 6. I say it may have been my own fault because I did not take the mags apart and clean them first like some said to do. Also, I was using my Uplula speed loader, the same one I use on my XDm and Sig 229. Not sure if that would make any difference or not. I did take it apart and clean it with Gunscrubber before I shot it, and lubed it with Breakfree. The cold was getting the best of my hands, so I called it a day after about 70 rounds.

One thing I learned is KEEP YOUR PINKY OFF THE MAGS!!! I have small hands, so have no trouble getting a good hold on the entire grip. Boy does that bare metal sting your pinky after several rounds, especially when its cold out. I swear this thing has as much recoil as my little J frame 637 S&W .38 Special. :p

I've never shot the J Frame you mention, but my PM9 is tame as can be! I don't know a softer shooting SubC. My buddy's LC9 kicks like a mule compared to my PM9, and it's still quite manageable, just not as quick on follow-up shots.

When I had one I also found the PM9 to be pretty soft shooting, (much less than a lightweight J frame with +P) and that was with +P ammo. I also found it to be very accurate. I now have a P9 instead but find the same with it. I use my Uplula speed loader with no ill effects.

Oh, I'm not complaining about the recoil, sorry if it came out that way. It is probably about what I expected. But I am used to the larger 9's I have which have half the recoil. It was the sting I was getting in my pinky that was getting to me more than anything. But like I said, that was because it was resting on the bare metal portion of the mags. The jamming first round in the 7 round mag bothered me more than anything though. The Airweight J frames buck pretty good, but nothing terrible unless you get one in .357 mag.

Not to belabor this, but when my PM9 replaced my LW carry J-frames of a lot of years one of the things I really liked about it was the relative ease of controlled follow-up shots. The only softer/easier shooting carry guns I have are locked breech .380s.

Ok guys, lets forget the J frame thing, I have no problem whatsoever with the PM9 recoil as long as I keep my pinky off the mag in cold weather.
Anyone have a clue what is causing the 7 rounder to jam? I took it apart and nothing jumped out at me what could be wrong. I did notice with these mags the top round seems to move around more from top to bottom than others I have owned. In other words, does not lock down as tightly. The nose can pivot higher or lower than the others I have owned. Hope that makes sense.

Glad it hear it worked well in the cold too... sometimes guns do funny things in the cold.

There have been some issues posted about the 7 round mags in general. If your 6 rounder shoots well all the time consider it just a mag problem. Congratulations on your new PM9

I have 2 7rd mags that feed fine, but they did need a little love in the beginning. Many say just pull down their follower and pin it about half way down, then give their top near the lips a little squeeze. Then reload and see the top round still wiggles so much and if they drop free. If still not good then repeat the loving until you find joy. Lots of theories few facts as to why the fail but they do and are fixable.

Yea, it just seemed like the lips may need a bit of persuasion on the 7 rounder. I will mess with them a little before I take it out again. All in all, should be a fun gun and a great carry weapon. Does anyone know if they make a 6 round mag with a plastic base or at least a cover for it?
