Can't wait to shoot it!

I bought a CW45 last week and shot it yesterday. 100 rounds of ball and 50 rounds of HP with nary a problem. I haven't shot my CW40 lately, but I think the 45 is a bit easier due to the extra 2 or 3 ozs and the softer recoil of the 45 ACP. The 40 was one of my favorite belt carry guns because of the light weight, but I think the 45 may replace it. Even the 45 is lighter than my other carry pistols.

Prepped, lubedand ran 150 rounds of FMJ through it today. Ran like a champ!

I bought a CW45 a few days ago and range tested it yesterday. I only shot 125 rounds of 230 grain ball, but I had several malfunctions of the failure to feed variety. They seem to be magazine related. The slide by itself cycles smoothly, but the underside of the magazine feed lips seem much coarser than those on some of my other pistols, and the rounds don't strip smoothly out of the magazine. The gun was already well lubricated, and the magazines were also. Since this is a carry weapon, I want to make sure that the gun is 100% reliable before carrying it. I am considering taking a piece of fine crocus cloth to the feed lips to smooth them out.

I also own a PM9 which I bought used and was already well broken in and functions flawlessly; and we bought my wife a CW9 for CCW which seemed to need no break-in and has been dead nuts reliable out of the box. My carry stable also includes a couple different 1911s, a Glock 19, and an M&P45. All of these ran like champs right out of the box. This CW45 is the first pistol I've bought which really does seem to need a break in to function reliably.

Is this normal for the CW45?

Edited to add: On the same day that I bought the gun, I also phoned Kahr and ordered a holster and a spare magazine for it. When the stuff arrived, the magazine delivered was the regular 725 for the P series pistols, and not the 725G which I had ordered which fits the CW pistol. Are they normally more reliable than that? Also, can the little pad of the 725G be ordered separately and simply swapped out with the base plate on the 725?

Thanks for the report DefMC. Glad all went well with your new CW45. It's funny how often we read those two words "prepped and lubed" associated with positive initial range reports.

Welcome to the forum, The Annoyed Man! :) Can I just call you Man? It sounds like you, like most owner, have had great success with multiple Kahrs, so I hope you aren't too annoyed. Do you really want that as your permanent screen name? You need to get a small picture of Jeff Dunham's Walter to use as an avatar and display a sharp wit to make it fit.

OldLincoln, a reread of the OP will show you that all didn't go well for him - he had several misfeeds.

Polishing the feed lips sounds like a good idea. There are also a couple of sticky threads that have a wealth of knowledge in them about solving such issues and getting your gun working 100% reliable. Plus, there are some great minds here on the forum who will help you.

Here are the threads:

just so y'all know, The Annoyed Man (TAM) in a pretty knowledgeable fellow in firearms and is a regular poster on other forums, under the same name. The "handle" has nothing to do with his current dilema.

TAM, there are several discussions scattered around here on the forum related to smoothing and adjusting the feed lips on the .45. I'm sure Jocko can help.

I've been posting as The Annoyed Man on multiple forums for a dozen years or more now, which began when I started my own forum lo these many years at AnnoyedMan.com. Most people just condense it to TAM when exchanging ideas/comments with me.

I was referred here by a member on another forum where I post a lot under the same screen name, at TexasCHLForum.com.

I saw one of the stickie threads yesterday with a lot of good information on it. I was particularly amused that one of the recommendations made in that thread was on how to make a 6 round magazine with a flush baseplate from a 7 round Officers-length 1911 magazine—because earlier in the day I had been looking at one of the magazines from my 3" Kimber, comparing it to the Kahr magazine with exactly that idea in mind.

I am particularly a fan of Tripp Research's Cobra Mags for my 1911s. Their magazines are completely rebuildable and you can buy all the component parts from them. They are made of the highest quality stainless steel and use a self-healing polymer follower similar to that on the Kahr.

Sounds like we can learn a lot from you, TAM! :p

I want to get a CW45 myself. With them going now for $350 or less, shipped, my great value alarm is going off! :target: I haven't owned a 1911 yet, but I have observed that they are like potato chips.... bet you can't eat just one! :D:D:D
