I've always been a S&W guy. (but I don't like the lock on the new revolvers). I do , however have two M&P autos. A full size 9mm for target/plinking/competition. and a compact 40 cal. (double stack/winter carry). They are 100% reliable. I do have a new Kahr CM9 sitting at my dealer waiting for me, I'm sure it will run great also:D It'll be a nice thin addition for summer carry.

I have the full size .40 and love it. It has been completely flawless and stays close by at home. I like it even better since a Hogue grip has been added. That fits my hand better than either of the factory inserts. I think you'll like that CM too. I never leave home without my PM.
M&P are good pistols, but I am not a huge fan of them; I prefer a Kahr or a SIG.

You should like the CM9 for what it is. Do the new Kahr Prep and Lube and it should run like a champ.
I carried a M&P 9 compact for about two years. Great pistol...very accurate, comfortable, and RELIABLE.
I switched to the Kahr CW9 because it is thinner, lighter and also reliable.
I'd take either of these pistols out for concealed carry....ummm, I think that's been established already.

I had a compact M&P 40 for about a year. I bought it after my compact M&P 45 was stolen. I traded it a couple of weeks ago, even, for a new CW45. There was nothing wrong with the gun - it was totally reliable and reasonably accurate, but not as much so as the 45. If I was going to carry a 40, I preferred the much lighter CW40, so the M&P spent most of it's time in the safe. Besides, I don't like black guns.

Do you just not like the whole idea of a government forced lock being added? Or is there anything about it that affects the functioning of the gun? I left the keys in the box and never plan to insert one or turn the lock.

Anything mechanical can fail. Plus, I don't like how they caved in to pressure to put the locks on. Now, my revolvers are Ruger.

Accidents happen and I am guilty of having one and lucky I am able to write this. when it happened, I found that many others had accidents as well. You shouldn't feel like a wimp because you favor an external safety. You may be one of the smart ones.
compman, did you mean to post this in another thread? It is totally off the subject. We were talking about S&W M&P pistols, a new CM9 that the OP has waiting for him, and that he doesn't like the locks on the S&W revolvers. Nobody said anything about favoring an external safety or feeling like a wimp. So, whazzuup?

Several S&W wheelguns come with or without lock. Take your pick.
I last saw a 'no lock' 642 at a LGS for $362 in August

No accident, but I grew up shooting HP's and 1911's so I too, like manual safeties. All my pistols have them except where unavailable. ie Kahrs, LCP, and P220. That's actually why I now favor HK's over SIGs.

Was the accident with the Glock? Was it at the range or in the car? Were you holstering or unholstering?

Oops, I got caught on this too, but I forgot the original topic and replied. Well, I guess thread highjacking has always been rampant at KT, but this is more off-topic than most.

Well, I guess thread highjacking has always been rampant at KT, but this is more off-topic than most.I think a thumb safety is a very small price to pay for a great SA trigger. Once you train on a 1911 system, using a Glock or Beretta Nano is a breeze. I really hate the guns where the safety goes in the opposite direction for "fire". My Beretta Neos is that way and for sale.
I'm confused. (more than usual)
