Has anybody tried one of these? It has a car mount that looks to be sturdy enough. The description states "When box is locked it cannot be removed from the mounting bracket" which is what I've wanted all along. What I don't know yet is can it be mounted with the screws going down instead of up so I can screw it into the shelf in the trunk.

Linc, I don't have any personal experience with this product, but that lock looks like it might fail the slide hammer test.

A friend of mine has one mounted on the floor under the rear seat in his truck. Swears by it and recommends it. Personally, I have one similar to this with a steal cable attached to the frame under my driver's seat.

I got a response from Bulldog today which says the mount can be a top or bottom mount. I suspect if the box were in the mount and that was bolted down that it would pass the hammer test, especially if bolted into a space without much swing room. For me that would be the shelf in the trunk where the spare tire sits. Tough to hit it anyway but tighter back into the mount.

With the mount it would be handy to carry out in the box and just slip it into the mount. Around here we had a rash of auto burglaries where they broke a window, popped the trunk and took the purse.

I disabled the trunk inside release and glove box door and with this setup any valuable that would fit should be well protected. No, my wife's purse would definitely not fit!
