My question has undoubtably been addressed here so I apologize for the redundancy.....I just thought since I was new to the forum, I'd introduce myself, ask my question and get a conversation started:).

Like I said I'm new to the forum, but I'm on several other forums under the same user name. For a couple of days now, I've had "the itch".....BAD and today I had to scratch it and went to the LGS and purchased a new CM9. I'm a big fan of subcompact 9mm pistols and have owned many....G26, G27, PPS, P2000SK, LC9, R9S, etc.....I have a bad habit of selling guns to fund other projects and recently have not had a "pocket 9" and have been carrying a G23 daily. Just yesterday I put my name on the Boberg waiting list and I know that I'll purchase another Rohrbaugh someday too. But in the mean time I "had" to get something else. I owned a Kahr once before and did not like the trigger (compared to Glock). To be honest I probably didn't give it a fair chance. Since then I have gotten used to some other DAO designs, some that were good (P250) and others not so much (LC9). So as I was thinking what could tide me over until I get the Boberg and can afford to buy another R9S, I started thinking about the CM9. I watched the review on gunblast.com and was interested. I started shopping online and was surprised to see they're only going for starting at about $377. I decided this a.m. that if I could find one locally for close to gunbroker.com prices I was going to pull the trigger today. Well LGS had one for $389 so I went over there, fondled it, stuck it in my pocket, etc. and then said "I'll take it", filled out the requisite paperwork, paid and was out the door in a matter of 15 minutes.

I'm excited, as I always am when I make a spontaneus gun purchase. I got back to work and field stripped the gun. This is where my question comes in. I noticed a lot of plastic shavings on the frame rails. I wiped them off and saw several good sized gouges out of the plastic frame rails themselves. I'm assuming these shavings were just from the test firing done @ the factory before it was sent to the distributor and dealer. I don't imagine it's going to affect the function any, but still it is somewhat bothersome. Do I need to contact Kahr.....or is this normal with the Kahr poly frame guns? Like I said I'm sure this has been addressed here, unless this issue is specific to MY CM9 only, but I thought I'd open up discussion on the topic again to get as much feedback from other CM9 / PM9 owners. Thanks!

Welcome!
Great purchase there, you'll enjoy it without a doubt, and those shavings are typical. The gouges I'd like to see photos of though. Wouldn't hurt to email Kahr some photos as well to get their opinion so it's at least documented.

Again, welcome to the forum, I look forward to the range report.

Sent using Tapatalk, thanks for supporting it on this site.

Obviously seeing shavings on the rails of your brand new gun got your attention. Did for me too when I first got my CM9.

There's a certain amount of break in needed on this frame. The slide will set itself in after the requisite 200+/- rounds and the manual racking.

Honestly it's nothing to be concerned with. You may find additional shavings as you break her in.

Check out the stickys on proper cleaning and prep of the gun. Lube it well, run it wet during break in and you'll do great. They're fantastic little guns.
Good luck and Welcome!

Welcome to KahrTalk!

I've got the PM9; I you like pocket nines you'll love the CM9. Since getting my PM9 I've carried it more than my P3AT (pocket) and Glock 26 (AIWB) combined!

SHARP; THE SLIDE ACTUALLY DOES NOT RIDE on the poluymer frame rails. What ur seeing is the slide not smoothing out any iregularites in the polymer rails that might be acrtualy rubbing against the slide, which aftrer a few hundred rounds willbe all gone and very smooth. The polyler frame rails are there to help you guide the slide on the gun . The sldie actually rides on the two all steel rqails inbedded in the front dust cov er and the bac k two rails which are also of one peace also inbedded inthe polymer frame itself. Ur cm9 is fine,, don't compare the glock triggers to ur kahr triggers. TRhey are two totally different systems. U will no doubt shoot the glocks more accurate but as u so well know those glocks won't ride in ur front pocket either.

welcome to trhe forum and u might want to visit the kahr tech section ahd hit on two good stickys.

Thanks for all the replies! After looking again this morning, and under a bright light, I am not concerned anymore. No gouges. I'm going to shoot it and if it performs, carry it. Recommendations for thinnest profile front pocket holster?

Welcome to the forum.

Like Jocko said check out the proper prep and proper lube before yuo go out the first time. Everything should run fine but don't make a judgement call on the first 5-6 mags. Mine is at about 700+ rounds and runs smooth as silk.

Ran 100 rounds of Federal FMJ 115 grain through it today at the range. Not a hiccup, except slide failed to lock back after final round was fired twice. We'll see what happens the next couple hundred rounds....but so far, so good...I think I made a good choice:).

Been thinking about this since my range trip yesterday....Can slide failing to lock back be shooter induced? Reason I ask was the first time it happened was the very first mag I shot through the gun and then the only other time it happened was when I was shooting one handed with my weak hand.

I know...if you've seen one you've seen them all, but here's the requisite crappy cell phone pic:D.

Yes it can be shooter induced if you are anywhere near the slide release lever with your grip. I shoot rt. handed with a both thumbs forward grip and much of the time my thumb position will cause the slide to fail to lock back. If you have the slightest pressure on that lever it will not lock the slide back.

That explains it then. Thanks!

it is very easy for a RH shooter to hit that slide stop and never know it, If it happens very rarily, consider it shooter error, if it happens alot, try left handed and if it continues then something in the gun is now causng it. Only a few things can cause pre mature slide locking open and not locking open.

When I first got mine, the slide failed to lock on the first two magazines. But remember, Kahr suggests a 250 round break-in, so I'm sure your spring is still just a bit stiff. This will lessen over time and you will love it.

I have nearly 1000 through mine and it never fails.

Welcome to the Kahr community.
