We all love our guns, and, I'm sure we all love a deal. Is there anyone who doesn't love a great meal at a great price?
My G/F and I went out to eat last night. We've been wanting some GOOD Italian. Since Jocko hasn't invited me into his kitchen, we headed out to Maggione's Little Italy in Troy Michigan. Near the former KMart World HQ (RIP). Its a 25 minute drive but worth every second of it.
They have a menu option for a three course meal with two to go.
We started with a crab cake appetizer, normally a pricey $12.95. Simply awesome and the best I've tasted in ten years anywhere.
Next course, she choose Spaghetti and Meatballs in a Marinara sauce and I tried Baked Rigatoni Pomodoro with Calabrian Chicken Sausage.
Dessert was Tirimisu split 70/30 favoring you know who.
We took home a Mom's Lasagna and a Taylor Street Baked Ziti, two full entrees for the freezer. Tab, $39.95 plus coffee, tax and tip. Service was excellent and he got 22%. Everything was fantastic.
I'm working on a plan to go there every three days and give up all other food altogether. Well maybe not Mexican and Chinese. or Baby Back ribs at Al's Firehouse...a story for another day. I smell dinner cooking.

We had a small gathering last weekend that included a group visit to one of our many nearby eating places. Yes, it was Italian.
Over the course of the weekend, I gained four pounds.
'nuf said, I think. :o

Maggiones is just one awesome restaurant, nothig like good Ialian food, coming from a Italian background and from an Italian town, "is there any other kind of food". I think not. If ur ever in my area give me a call my wife makes the best Italian food. We use only the freshest horsemeat, never a day old even. The heads are frozen for furture kahrs assholes. Bawanna can give a better description if asked...
I have found the best Italian meatballs are made by running a Harley at 1500rpm and puttng the meatball pan at 12 inches from the exhaust for 20 minutes.... My what a flavor. Taste like sh-it if done with a metric bike though.

Actually I played the part of horse exhaust on the floor of the barn. Pretty much nothings changed since. Now I'm mostly playing carpet glue so the brass don't trip and spill hot coffee on themselves on the way leaving at 3 in the afternoon.
Last weekend was a "Chinese weekend" for me. I made steamed pork buns and cabbage in clear sauce. After that we had bean curd with hot sauce (I did not make the bean curd).

Carrabba's is the best Italian joint in my town. :D

Your post got me hungry...

Since you like to eat Italian food, do you perhaps know where I could get casu marzu cheese? I cannot find it anywhere and they told me that it is not imported into the U.S. :(

Ohhhhh.... you have now hit my second, or maybe first favorite subject.
Grew up in the south eating traditional southern food which is still OK. BUT then I married a filipino that enjoy's cooking all types of food and I found this thing called SPICES! Now I know why the crusades lasted so long. The Europeans needed some good food. My short list of favorite foods in no particular order are:
Italian
Greek
Middle-eastern
Indian
Spanish
Mexican
Thai (the hotter the better)
Japaneese (yeah sushi too)
and every now and then the classic biscuits and gravy or beans and cornbread.

OK...I though you made that up, so I googled it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Casu_marzu Have you ever eaten that? Do you KNOW what's in that? There is a reason it's not imported into the US.

OMG too much for me .
But we won't discuss the percent of insect parts allowed in American grain products. My only suggestion is not to leave a round container of Quaker Oats in the cabinet too long. Something is gonna hatch in there. Corn meal too. That's why my mom always kept it in the freezer. To keep those critters from hatching.

Yes, I know what is in it, I ate it several times, and I love it (please do not faint now):p. You should drink a very strong red wine with it. I can tell you that it is good, it is very good; but people with weak heart might need to close their eyes while eating it :D
By the way, I love Swedish surströmming too :)

I'll stick with the biscuits and gravy myself. Call me a woos but I can't handle that spicey stuff and I don't do the grapes so can't eat the cheese with the bugs in it and drink the strong red stuff. Course if I ate that I'd probably want to drink the strong red stuff too.
Actually I think I'm lactose intolerant so guess it don't matter much. I do like Chinese food, and most pasta type stuff.

I believe casu marzu is unpasteurized and therefor can't be imported to the US. It's the same reason you can't get good brie here.

I really like the Maggione's Little Italy we got down in Austin, but Texas smoked brisket & pork ribs tickle my fancy the most.

Italian, Chinese, Indian, Japanese, etc! Gees, guys, I've never had heartburn before, but I feel it coming on. Doesn't anyone else here like plain old AMERICAN food. I seldom eat meat, but when I do it's a steak along with a baked potato, and a good tossed salad, no cucumber or celery please. BTW, how about some fresh baked bread and lots of butter with that meal.

We ate lunch at a place where they used picnic tables and you went though a line to order meats by the pound and tubs of fixins like beans and coleslaw. You'd get a loaf of bread and take it all on a tray to your table. Great to go with a group of 4 or more.
Also ate dinner at a Portugese restaurant where wandering waiters walked around with different cuts of meat on a very large skewer. You had what looked like a poker chip, red on one side, green on the other. If you turned up green, they found you and sliced some more. There were 3 or 4 types in circulation. The center of the restaurant had an expanded "salad bar+". Fun times on the corporate expense account.

Yep! I ate there with a group on a project for a large software company that will remain nameless. It was a "team building" event. Not sure if it helped build the team but it helped build my girth a bit. Definitely a fun way to gorge oneself while stuck on a project in DFW. :)

Unfortunately you are right; you cannot get a real brie here. Did you ever try Roquefort? It is one of my favorites cheeses.

Oh yeah, that's good too. A beef tenderlion cooked medium is DELICIOUS.
I usually never get heartburn or anything. I spent some time overseas and caught some really bad bugs that kept me ill for a couple of months. Since then I can eat about anything and it doesn't bother me... oh except CHEERIOS . What do they put in those things????

Well, I love meat! I could eat steaks every single day. However, I like it medium rare to rare with warm center. It does not bother me at all if it says "moo" when I stick the fork in it. And of course, I want a strong and heavy bodied red wine, new baked bread and home made butter with it. How does it sound?

I don't mind a pink center, but it better not be mooing or bleeding.

After shootin' at the range today, my girlfriend & I went for Mexican food. We had a cheese crisp with green chilis on it, a dozen raw oysters on the half shell, a platter of 4 different marinated meats,2 kinds of pork, beef, chicken, on a bed of lettuce, avocados, tomatoes & jalapenos that was on a platter the size of a large pizza. Washed down with ice cold beer. We brought home enough for several meals.

Vickie wanted to go the Golden Corral tonight. I had never been there, but I was impressed. The food was basic American fare, a plus for me, and was surprising good. The roast beef was excellent. It was pretty much all you can eat, and they had a large selection of entrees and side dishes and lots of desserts. She paid the bill, but I don't think it was that much.
