View Full Version : My first competition shoot
Is this weekend, hubby informed me yesterday that he signed us up. heh
I guess I'll be shooting my MK9 since my only full size gun is my 1911 .22 cal. He offered to let me shoot one of his duty guns, but haven't ever shot 2 of the 3, so I told him I'd pass. I'd rather shoot something I'm very familiar with. It's just for fun anyway. Too bad I can't shoot the Judge. :D
Saturday is the paper targets, Sunday is steel "pepper poppers".
:53:
Will report back. This should be fun.

Have fun and enjoy. I'm glad that you didn't say that it too bad that you couldn't shoot your husband. :)

Good for you. I'd really like to hear about how the competition shooting helps develop ones SD/HD skills. I suspect it does even if its just that you're shooting under pressure.
I've done a bit of local air rifle field target competition (I sucked) and back when a bunch of archery (traditional) 3D competition (ran hot and cold) but never really liked the competition aspects of either sport. Suspect I'd feel the same with firearms competition.
Well I had a great time. It turns out they allowed .22 cal, so I decided to shoot my GSG 1911.
Today was steel target shooting. We had 4 courses, and shot each course 5 times. Shooters worst time was thrown out on each course.
Now I've shot about 1000 through this gun and have never had any issues, but my very first run I got out there and couldn't get it to feed. kept having jambs, just a heck of a time. Finally figured out that the magazines don't like being completely full (10 rounds). Once I started only putting 8 rounds in the mag, my issues were pretty much fixed. I was able to work through it and overall had a good time.
We got home a bit ago and checked email, the scores were out. I placed 2nd in the rimfire division, and 8th overall. Best part? I smoked my firearms instructor range master sheriff husband. :D :D :D
yeah, I'm gloating now.
and I'll be buying a larger caliber full size gun for competitions very soon, this is addicting. thinking 9mm.
hubby took over 500 pics. Once we sort through them, I'll post a few.

Very cool!
anybody have any experience with the Springfield XMD Competition series guns? Looking at the 9mm. I would like another 1911 so I can put my fancy red grips on it, but there are very few 9mm double stack ones out there. I would really like more than 7 or 8 rounds per mag.

The XDm is a fantastic gun. Have handled a few, still have yet to shoot one, but from all reports they are stellar, and what Glock should have been.

Congrats, TD2k! Great post, too.
The digital version of the March issue of Guns Magazine is out now. Free to view and sign up for digital subscription.
Many good topics in there, including the XD(M) 5.25 and reloading .40 S&W.
You don't have to put your "Name" in the blank... I use "wyntrout".
