Does anybody here shoot a p/cm40 better or as well as a p/cm9? If you have compared different loads with both guns I am really interested in your experiences. Thanks and God Bless. Jeff

I was fortunate to be able to rent a P40, P9 and K40.
Opinions very so you really need to get range time yourself.
If you can't rent the same gun,
rent a weight/caliber that's close to get a feel for the recoil.
I personally found the P40 too much for extended range practice.
Others like it and swear by it.
The P9 was fine and so was the K40.
I shot the K40 better, and all stainless guns make me weak.
So now I have, and love, an MK40 Elite.
It's really too heavy for extended pocket carry (again for me).
On a belt it's great. And I already have an 11 oz 38 j-frame for my pocket.
How you intend to carry?
And how much recoil you can manage and be proficient?
Are questions only you can answer.

First off I'm not that good of a shot anymore...my 54 year old eyes are doing good to print a decent group on a pie plate at 15 yards with my full size M&P .40 or my 5 inch 4506 S&W .45 and with the PM40 I'm doing good to hit the kill zone at 10 feet but thats good enough for me...
I can tell that you want the PM40 so go for it because you won't ever be satisfied with the PM or CM 9mm if you don't and would always have wished you had bought a PM40
Now what you most likely will do is get the .40 and either shoot it well and love it which would be great or hate it due to the very sharp recoil and difficulty getting on target for a follow up shot...There isn't much in between thought with a .40 cal...Get the .40 and if you like it and the recoil doesn't bother you then fine and if not you can always lose money and trade it for the PM/CM9 later...
If I had it all to do over I would definitely have gone with a PM9 due to it being easier to shoot accurately and the price of 9mm is much less expensive than .40 but there are some that wouldn't think of having a gun that starts with something less than a 4 but IMHO that is old school thinking and with modern high performance JHP defense ammo the 9mm is more than enough to get-r-done...After all it's more about where you hit them than what you hit them with...Weapon control and marksmanship will always trump big fat bullets you can't hit with...If you really have to have a big bore then I think the PM45 would be a better choice than a .40 but a PM45 is about the max limit and probably too large for pocket carry....Good luck with your decision...

For 20 years I wouldn't even consider a 9mm.
Particularly after the infamous 1986 FBI Miami shootout.
But things have truley changed.
And 9 is fine if you pick quality high tech SD ammo.
I actually finally bought my first 9mm!
well sort of
Does a Storm Lake G27 40-9mm conversion barrel count? LOL

It doesn't matter a diddley squat what somebody else can do...Heck all the gun magazine test shooters say they can get 2 inch groups from a Jennings .25 acp at 25 yards all day long but I don't believe it...
You really need to find a range that rents both PM9 and PM40 pistols and shoot them side by side and then decide which caliber is the one for YOU....
Thats the only way to know for sure...

if u want total firepower go 40, if u want a gun you can shoot alot and enjoy alot, IMO the kahr 9's are the ultimate. They willdo the job whenneeded, Wehave come a long way with ammo since trhat FBI shoot out, probably a 40 cal would not have been much better. Lets face it 99.5% will never fire their gun in harms way, so if u cannot really enjoy going to the range for some shooting fun, then IMO a 40 cal in a kahr (other than maybe the K40) is not the way to go. I am pro 9 for reasons mostly above. I know it is not a 40 cal either but for me who gives a fokk. I have carried less in my 48 years and felt good about it at that time. Who knows maybe someday my PM9 will be my safe queen and it willbe replaced by the new 945 caliber to be yet made. I enjoy shooting when I go and if I want punishment I can stay home and listen to the wife bit-h at me. I do not buy the 40 cal groups being better than a 9mm especially in these lightweight kahrs, just ain't gonna happen..
Course if I owned a 40 kahr of any model I WOULD PORT THE FOKKER.. and shoot it like I stole it.

SEAL standard issue sidearm in Sig 226. Many carry it, but not all.

I have both a PM40 and a CM9, so I may be able to address your question.
Short answer - No, nobody shoots the 40 better than the 9.
A lot of my friends have shot both, and some are pretty darn good, but nobody shoots the 40 better.

My name is nobody - LOL!
Although it's not apples to apples granted.
And polymer to polymer you may be right.
But I shoot the K40 much better than a P9.
With 180s the 40 groups sweet.
I'm hitting the target with confidence with the P9.
But no real groupings there.
that's just the way it is

Many of the Glock shooters claim that they are able shoot the .40s as well or better than the Glock 9s. The smaller PM/CM Kahrs are more difficult to shoot than larger weapons, so it isn't a surprise that the recoil of the .40 causes a degree of discomfort compared to the 9mm.

My son trains police officers from several departments, and he's adamant that they shoot the glock 40's better than the 9's or 45's. However, with the much smaller Kahrs, I agree that the ratio may change. For me personally, I'll always get the gun that makes the biggest holes. I guess that's why I have eleven 45's, three 40's, one 9mm, and a 380.
