So far the biggest story I have seen at SHOT Show 2012 is the XDS from Springfield Armory. It is a single stack .45ACP that holds 5 rounds in the magazine and 1 in the chamber. The barrel is 3.3 inches, and the overall length is 6.3 inches. It is only one inch thick. Empty the XDS weighs 29 ounces, and it is a striker fired pistol in the tradition of the XD and XD(M), with a polymer frame and forged steel slide.

Nice post Barth, I'm so jealous - wish I was there to check it out in person.

If you cannot get into SHOT due to its restrictions come to Tulsa for the largest non-trade gun show in the world.
1. FORGED slide? Would swear its CNC machined from bar... not made under the drop hammer of forging, but... thats only my reasoned postulation.
2. Grip safety... tsk tsk ... why oh why do they insist on that?

I love the grip safety!

I have looked everywhere and everything says this sucker weighs 29 ounces!
Dang! My full-sized Xd45 Tactical with a 5" barrel weighs 29.05 ounces and 32.45 ounces with an empty magazine.
I just weighed my PM45N with a bike tube grip cover... 17.4 ounces empty... 19.35 ounces with an empty magazine... and 23.85 ounces with 5+1 rounds loaded.
I don't see how a sub-compact, polymer-framed pistol like that can be so heavy. It needs a "real world" weigh in!
I just checked at Springfield Armory and the 3.8" Compact 45 Xd weighs:

"Weight w/ empty mag:
27oz w/ flush mag, 29oz w/ ext mag & sleeve"

I know. That slide must be made out of lead, not steel! Maybe there are lead weights down inside the frame. :) Their philosophy must be that the slide has to be even heavier on this shorter pistol. I'll bet that thing is as tough as a Mack truck, though.

I like the gun but if the weight is correct, I won't be buying it. I love my PM45 and won't compromise it's size and weight and accuracy for something new that looks to be larger and heavier.
