Can you guys give me some suggestions for a range gun other than a 22 lr. I love shooting my cw 45 but ammo gets expensive and 6 rounds per mag goes quick. Whats your favorite.

sorry my range gun is my PM9. I love to shoot that fokker, can't hit jack sh-t with it but not for trying. I can understand the expense side though, so if I had to pick a nice 22, it would be my sons Ruger MK11 target.

Ya most everyone I talk to says 22lr because of the ammo price, but the price of the gun is as expensive as the higher caliber. Plus I want more pop than a 22 can deliver.

Your practice gun will have the same trigger as your go to gun and you could shoot the less expensive 9mm ammo.

Thats a great idea. Thanks.

1911 are nice guns to shoot. Probably my favorite.

You can get a nice Ruger 22/45 from buds (http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/product_info.php/products_id/14306/Ruger+2245+Mark+III+22LR+4.5%22+Blued+FIXED+SIGHTS )for about 260. But I agree, shooting a .22lr is nothing like shooting the bigger calibers.

I cut my teath on my Glock 17. I have over 4500 rounds through it. It is a nice gun, but not for everyone (i.e. thick grip). I got it when I was living in IL to use as a target/home defense gun. If I were to do it now (living in OH), I probably would buy the 26 or 19 and have it pull double duty as a CC piece.

For low cost ammo other than .22, try a .38 or a 9mm.

I like the BHP 9mm; I believe it is an amazing firearm.

High capacity magazines aren't the answer to re-stuffing small single stacks. You'll spend about the same amount of time stuffing mags. Rounds are rounds, whether you put six in one mag ten times, or seventeen in one mag three or four times.

I put mostly 9mm downrange via PM9 or S&W MP9, both great guns. I usually bring a .22 and .38 revolver with me to change things up a bit. I have purposely tried to avoid buying guns (so far) that have expensive feeding habits.

Have you priced .38 recently ?

After much research into 22LR's, I just picked up a Browning Buckmark. Shooting 22LR helps hone the shooting skills at a much lower cost.

It's a nice addition to my CM9 and Glock 19.

I shot my CM9 and CW45 but I do my own reloads, so the cost per round is a lot cheaper. Down around 6$ per box.

Yeah, there are a large variety of 9mm guns in every price range that will fit your requirements. For a range gun, I assume full size and some heft to it are OK? Take a look at a Bersa Thunder Pro 9 (http://www.bersa.com/bersa-firearms/thunder-pro-series.html). High quality gun at a very reasonable price.

A Ruger SR9 ain't a bad choice either, or their P95.

The .22 conversion I've got from Tactical Solutions - all steel - is great on 1911's, and I've got a dedicated frame for it now. Absolutely dead accurate - sights mounted to barrel (or rib actually, like High Standard "Victor"). Thats what I'm toying with now but its turning into a Bullseye Target .22 - so - I will probably just get a Ruger with the 1911 grip frame, for a "plinker" (or maybe a Ruger Bearcat if I can find one).

An AK in 7.62 :D

A good non-snubbie revolver also works.

My favorite non-.22 is something in 9mm. That's why I got into those. I always catch something in brass cases on deep discount and then buy in bulk, with free shipping when possible.

I have bought some cheap Tula .45 but I really don't like to shoot it. I'm not so sure that it's good for my gun as I have has some issues. I have had no problems with .45 in brass cases.

never see that brand tula around this area. It would have to be cheaper than camel dung for me to try it, I just read more about the negatives of it than any other brand.

I wouldn't use it in my Kahr or LCP, although I did in my LCP during break-in. Thought the steel might slick it up quicker. Dirty stuff.

That stuff was meant for AKs and SKSs.

That Tula is Russian and steel cased I believe. I save Russian ammo for my Russian type guns, SKS, AK-47, Makarov.

For practice, I'd go with a CZ-75 or 85, the are great guns, very accurate after break in. You can get the same gun in an EAA Witness, made by Tanfanglio in Italy for a little bit less. It's a DA/SA double in 9 or .40. not sure about .45.
You can get the Witness for under 400 at many places, and the CZ for just over that if you look around. Check out slickguns.com The had a CZ for around 420 or so.

I like the same operation as your carry gun idea mentioned earlier but for a range gun I'd go with a T9. Full size, lots of potential, still a good carry gun with a holster.

I guess my own wants are bleeding over into this thread.

I have several guns that are very nice for range use. I consider a range gun one that is accurate, shoots economical ammo (9mm or cheaper), is soft recoiling, good sights that don't overwork my eyes, and a nice trigger that allows some bullseye target time. Here are some of the ones I consider my most worthy.

The HK USP. This is a gun that defines soft recoil. Accurate to a fault and a pure pleasure.

The HK USPc. A smaller version but still an excellent choice. This is a gun people will ask to shoot when I'm at the range.

Beretta 92fs. The venerable workhorse. Mine is a INOX Vertec, which fits my hand a bit better, but any old 92 is a great range gun.

In the Kahr line I like the TP9 the best. It is as soft shooting as the T9 but cheaper. With a grip sleeve on I can shoot this a lot without tiring.

Daewoo DP51. This is a bit of an oddball but it is fun gun. It has a unique tri-action trigger that makes it a hit at the range as well. These can be found for around $300.

Not a 9mm, but the tried and true Beretta 84, in .380acp, is an excellent range gun. One of the few .380s I can shoot all day. The ergonomics are perfect.

These are a few of my personal favorites. Lots of good choices out there. Enjoy your hunt for the perfect range toy.

Thanks for the detailed list of guns. Yes it will be just for the range, and try to get my wife into it or atleast learn how to shoot.
