I did a basic take down and cleanup of my fathers Remington 12 Gauge semi automatic shotgun today. I would guess that it hadn't been apart for 25 years. I did some checking on the manufacture date and I am 90% sure it was made in 1958.

The other possible manufacturing date would be 1936. Is that possible for a semi auto shotgun?

It has XE stamped on the barrell and the model number on the frame and barrell match so its all origional.

Absolutely, Remington's Model 11 was introduced in 1905.

Wow, based on that link I think it may the 1936 model.

It has Model 11 with 390798 on the side which looks like it indicates the first model 12 gauge. It also has a turkey engraved on one side and a goose engraved on the other which I assume would indicate the Sportsman variation. This is amazing. The only thing my dad remembers is that his dad gave it to him.

Thanks Greg!
