I just got back from my LGS and looked, very intently, I might add, at a CM9 that is a factory "test fired" gun. It had TF printed on the box, (in magic marker), indentifying it as such. It has a new gun warranty and the usual 1 mag. My nephew is looking for a CM9 and This gun was well under the normal price. I would sure think that the break-in is done, and problems, if any, would have been dealt with. I think it is a smokin' good deal. We will be doing the paper work on Sat., so he should have her on Monday or so..
Any info on these particular pistols? Any thoughts would be appreciated..Thanks, MIke

humm factory test fired is a new one on me. If it carrys the 5 year new gun warranty, I would say go for it with gusto. Kahr factory test firesw every gun so I wonder what akes this one so special.

If you see inside the box a note that says officialy bless ed by Bawanna, then u know this is a real steal..

what is a smokin good deal???

These are guns that Kahr reps have taken to police departments for them to fire and evaluate, I think. Wouldn't it be nice if they were the massaged guns that they send to gun reviewers? The guns that never malfunction, even when shot with an extreme limp wrist?

A call to Kahr about the gun might clear things up. Personally I wouldn't be concerned so long as I were certain about the "new" gun warranty.

I talked with Ian/Ean today, and he explained the deal on the "test Fire" guns. These are guns that have been distributed to writers, Kahr Reps, gun shows, etc. They are then returned to the factory for complete lookovers. They are, essentually, lightly used firearms that have been gone over before resale. He said it should have a "U" in the preface of the serial number. The warranty is 1 year, vs. 5 years. It is a hundred dollars less than a new one, which is huge for a college student. I think it is a worthy deal. What do you think, now??

I'd say any gremlins that might have shipped with it are long gone/corrected. Anything else that might go wrong in the next year is likely something easy.
Good luck with it.

That's what I'm thinkin'.

I'd buy it myself. Can't go wrong I don't think.

I'd like to find the same deal on a PM45. I just realized I have another ankle that doesn't have anything hanging on it.

I vote go for it, can't go wrong.

odd that they don't give this gun a 5 year warrantry, for a 100 bucks less I would have to think about that. More than likely a good gun.

U can't beat a 5 year warranty over a 1 year warranty. course a 100 bucks is a 100 bucks. one should buy what one afford. Ur firsrt post stated a NEW GUN WARRANTY, which u now know is not true.. I would also bet that "U" is stajmped on the trigger guard and not part of the serial number of the gun.

from kahr webb stie Q & A section

Q. What does the "U" on the trigger guard of my pistol mean?

A. If there is a "U" engraved on the trigger guard of your pistol, it is a factory refurbished and test fired model (often sold as a "test fired" gun). The gun is considered to be used, will come with one magazine, and is sold with a one year warranty

Ya. I saw that after I talked to CS. I looked at the gun yesterday, and didn't know to look for a "U", anywhere. We are going to go to the gun shop tomorrow and let Chris look it over. I am sure that he will be all over it. I don't get the 1 year warranty. The guy at the shop said it had the "new" gun warranty. I will straighten him out on that, because he has a CM40 for sale, as well. I am hoping any bugs that it might have had are all worked out, and as a bonus, it should be broken in. I will keep you informed as this shakes out. He is in his third year of college, so every penny counts, at this time in his life, and is staying with us because he attends U.W. Milwaukee. (He is from Green Bay).
Thanks for the input..Mike

Guess you'd have to look at it like buying an extended 4 year warranty on a new gun for 100 bucks. Is a 4 year warranty worth $100.00? Tough choice but I'd tend towards new over used.

it isn't a bad buy, my point was to just "point" was to just point some things out to you. would benice if u could buy that extended warranty like bill K suggsted but as we know we cannot. I guess my point is that maybe kahr is not confident about giving a 5 year warranty on a "test fired" GUN which makes no sense to me. Do we know at all even if this gun when going back to the kahr factory is tren refurbished with a new complete recoil assembly? No we do not. that in itself is $25

Hognutz, u know enough about kahrs to know what top look for to. take the slide off, check to see that the polymer rails are not buggered up, that the barrel is indeed ok and no flaking inside etc. A 100 bucks is a 100 bucks no other way to cut it. I would be the last to say in this young mans position, to not to buy it but I would be the first to say for me I would not buy it. Given a 5 year warranty, yes I would say jump on it.

New CM9s can be had for under $400, so I don't think I'd pay over $300 for that one. JMHO.

good point, not sure even if a price was even mentioned???

The price is $350. He gets $450 for a new one. They are $399 at Bud's Guns. After a transfer, it comes out pretty close. I'd rather pay my local guy the extra money, and keep him around..We'll see what tomorrow brings..

Just to go against the grain here, I don't think I would go with the $100 savings to get only a 1 year warranty.
But then I would go with a PM9, not the CM9. ;)
Shop around, find your best price on a NIB pistol, either model and get the 5 year warranty.
Almost new is like almost pregnant.

The 5 year warranty thing bugs the heck out of me, as well. If they are so proud of these "test fire" guns, why don't they back them for 5 years? I think I am going to try to talk him out of the used one. I will pay the difference between the two. The PM9 is a great gun. I own one, but at this time it is out of the question for Chris. The CM9 will do. Once he graduates, he can add to his collection. This will put the immediate fire out.

My PM45 was a test fire. My LGS said five year warranty and I corrected him. He said they sell a lot of test fired Kahrs. He assumed a standard warranty. I got him to agree on a "store" five year warranty and an extra mag. PM45, black slide & Trijicon sights for less than half of the retail price. A more than fair deal.

Any issues with your PM45? This will be my nephew's decision, and I know that he is tighter than skin on a grape. We shall see in about 1/2 hour, how it shakes out..

At about 900 rnds. the frame chipped at the slide stop. The LGS returned it to Kahr CS and they replaced the frame. Had it back in seven days. I have about 2400 rnds. with the new frame and it is 100% perfect. My favorite Kahr.

want that in writing. hell of a deal if they will do it. 95% will never even need warranty service, but it is very good insurance in buying any product..

Well..We got to the LGS, and Chris decided that a new CM9 was the way to go. Everything looked good in the ''Test fire'' gun, but the lack of a 5 year warranty was the deal breaker. His new pistol will be in Tues. or Wed. Done deal. I am glad that he went that route. All it would take is one problem, and the shipping would eat up the $100 in a hurry. We got home and shot my PM9, Sig 229, and a new Glock 23. In the snow from last night and cold, but it is so worth it..Now I've got to go clean some guns. Thanks again for the input..It truly means a lot to have some opinions other than my own..Mike

The guns that never malfunction, even when shot with an extreme limp wrist? In short, a well used range gun? If for any reason it didn't shoot well and exhibited problems, then you get a gun with not too many rounds through it.

Just FYI, when Sig sells CPO (Certified Previously Owned) guns, they thoroughly inspect, clean and replace parts as needed. They only get a ONE YEAR warranty.
