I was lucky enough to score a reasonably priced CBOB recently. Here are my changes.

I had Sarge make some slim grips and do some custom stippling. I also had the trigger reset to 4.5# (from 3.25). I shoot too many other guns and all the triggers are close to 4.5 with a couple of exceptions, and they are higher. Finally, I had the trigger machined to a flat style to shorten it. I'm pretty happy about how it all looks and the triigger feels fine. I plan to shoot it Friday.

With shipping, FFL fees, new parts and labor, I have about $1,100 in this gun. It had 800 rounds through it, I've added another 150 so far.

Dan Wesson is a great value. If you move up to guns like Les Baer, Ed Brown, Wislon Combat etc, you get a few percentage points better quality but at double the price.

My other 1911 is a Sig RCS. Its an incredible value and terrific shooter. I carry it once in a while.

I shoot a 1911 really well but have never owned one.
My P220/45 is the closest thing to it and that really doesn't count.

After some research I had just about settled on a Dan Wesson Valor
as being that threshold of a quality 45 without spending a fortune for a Les Baer.

Right now I can only drive in 1st and 2nd gear.
So saving for a truck this summer is my primary focus.
But after that....

Took the CBOB to the range today. I love how it's all come together.

My buddy wanted to shoot a 1911. He's never shot .45 or 1911 style. At 18 feet, he made one very very small hole. His first two shoots were dead center

He shot his SW 642 Airweight for the first time since he bought it. His only other gun is a Ruger 22/45.

Its embarrassing when a guy hasn't shot in a year, takes your gun in an unfamiliar caliber and out does you.

I shot his 642 with standard pressure Fiocchi 38 spl. Not bad in recoil but that is one crappy trigger as it comes out of the box. Long and springy. I assume it gets better but if I get one, getting a trigger job asap.
