Nevada gun laws?

OK, I'm looking around on www.leg.state.nv.us, but haven't found what I am looking for yet.

Nevada does not recognize CCW permits from WA, OR, or UT which are the states I have CCW permits in.

If I should travel through Nevada for some reason, what will I need to do with any firearms I might be carrying in my vehicle? Slide locked open in a separate case from the ammo, stored in a compartment I can only access from outside the vehicle?

Anyone got links?

I'm finding lots of stuff about _concealed_ firearms, and something about rifles and shotguns in a vehicle on public highways, but not having a lot of luck with handgun stuff.

NRS 503.165 Carrying loaded rifle or shotgun in or on vehicle on or along public way unlawful; exceptions.
1. It is unlawful to carry a loaded rifle or loaded shotgun in or on any vehicle which is standing on or along, or is being driven on or along, any public highway or any other way open to the public.
2. A rifle or shotgun is loaded, for the purposes of this section, when there is an unexpended cartridge or shell in the firing chamber, but not when the only cartridges or shells are in the magazine.
3. The provisions of this section do not apply to paraplegics, persons with one or both legs amputated or who have suffered a paralysis of one or both legs which severely impedes walking, or peace officers and members of the Armed Forces of this State or the United States while on duty or going to or returning from duty.

I have seen some references to open carry being legal, including in vehicles, but I'm not having luck finding that information on an official Nevada law website.

Not really, because I have already determined that reciprocity will not help me. So now I just want to know what I need to do to legally carry or transport when I am in Nevada, and I want it from the horse's mouth. But thanks anyway.

There's a federal law McClure-Volkner or some such name (named after 2 Senators) that deals with transport state to state.

That deals with transport through, not possession at terminus within, a state. The impetus for that act was the abusive 1975 Mass law that mandated one year in jail for possession of any firearm off property without a permit.

Yep, now that I reread it. Was just making the distinction....with historical animosity and "credit" to Mass.

Traveling through....unloaded and locked in the trunk is protected by federal law.

I make no apologies for my correct use of English.

Not a lawyer....couldn't make a living at it due to ethics. Have had to deal with the nuances of legal language and descriptions. My Mom, God bless her, was an English teacher and sometimes that just gets the best of me. I'll try not to let it happen again. :)
