Just picked up a lightly used P40 came with night sights and three mags. I am going to buy a new mag for carry but what else should I replace not knowing how many rounds have been fired through it?

When you shoot it and as long as it functions properly nothing needs replacing.

Recoil spring is about the only thing needs replacing depending on the rounds the lightly used pistol has seen.

now knowing what I know about kahr product, Iam going to run this buy some of your kahr owners with some knowledge of what makes things work.
The barrel on the P40 is 3.6" long, the slide is 6.1" long
The basrrel on a K40 is 3.5" long , the slide is 6.1" long. that 1oth of an inch difference has to be in barrel length as described. so that being said wolffs offers recoil springsx in 4 different strengths for the K40, which is factory at 18# but they offer them also in the 20# and 22 and 23# recoil strength to. I would think with no doubt that the recoil springs shown on the woffls guns spring webb site under the K9/K40 section will fit perfect on on te P9 and P40 kahrs. If it was my K40 I wouldorder a set of the 22# springsw from wolffs for my K40 and shoot that gfunb like I stole it

I like the way you think but has anyone ran this by Wolff? It would seems too easy. After all, Wolff would just have to advertise that they now have a spring for the P40 and have another piece of the market without doing anything new. Since they have not, I wonder if this is possible.

Called Wolff and they said it could be an oversight on their end and it might fit. I have an e-mail out to Kahr asking if the K40 and P40 spring is interchangeable. Will post reply.

just as ol jocko thought, as far as more is better, to me that article is debateable and wolffrs does offer the factory srings. I do seem to remember awhile back where kahr offered a lady PM9 and the only difference was a lighter poundage recoil spring than the factory 18#. No doubt in this ol timers mind that one can shoot the 20.5 recoil spring in onesw pM9 and be fine with it as factory is 18#. I have shot that spring for over 5 years. As far aqs slide action being faster with a 18# spring over maybe the 20.5# spring, I guess my reply would be "duh"??? Guarantee u no human eye can see that difference.
Well at least one knows now that one can go to wolffs and order the P9 recoil springs under the K9 order numbers. That was my point from the git go..
