Hello, I'm not sure if this is the right forum to request this in but my wife is giving up on our cheap 380's because she hates the triggers. I want to get her a Kahr P380 but she specifically said I can not order it without her test firing one first. I'm a bit befuttled by her request as she has a CM9 and I have the PM9 and the triggers and the trigger on those pistols are short and light compared to the Keltec P3AT and the Ruger LCP. I've read that the P380 has the same type trigger and I wouldn't expect anything less. My wife, however, needs convincing in person.
These little 380's typically are not on the rental shelf at our local ranges so I'm requesting anyone with a Kahr P380 in the Austin Area that can offer to meet us at a range to test shoot this little pistol please let me know. I will drive to your location and pay for ammo and your range fee. We're in far north Austin and we mostly shoot at the Eagles Peak range because it's closer to our house but we could do Red's or anywhere in the Austin area really. We work the gun shows around central and gulf coast Texas, so if you're in Dallas or Houston, we may be able to work something out too.
Thanks in advance.

You seem really interested in the p380. I suggest you read on this forum in the p and cw series guns. You might change your mind and then again you might not.

I think the issues that plagued the P380 for so long are addressed and we're not hearing about issues nearly as much.
I admire your wife for wanting to shoot one first hand and see for herself if it's what she wants.
She must be from Missouri.

unless ur wife is just one hell of a gun woman and very strong, she will IMO not be bleto hand rack a Kahr P380, just not gonna happen. I wild second the motion of Kerby9mm to. Just not sure that is a gun for any woman. It is small, it has the strongest recoil springs of any 380 on the market.trigger system as u said is basically the same, SMOOTH AS GLASSIO she outta stay with the cm9, IMO she and u have the two best kahrs on the market. andfor sure firepower of 9 mm over a 380 trumps allday long

While forum contribution and opinions are great, I'm a firm believer in the theory that people who have lemons are more likely to complain and people who have delishious lemonaid (no issues) say nothing. I'll give Kahr the benefit of the doubt in this case.

My wife could kick most guys a__on a good day and look good doing it, thanks. We love our 9mm Kahr's but I'm ditching the Keltec's and the Ruger 380's and 380's have a role to play in the concealed carry world IMO.
My wife has a P380 and she loves it. With a little practice she was able to pull the slide back and lock it. She is 5'6" and 135#. The trigger is very much like all the other Kahrs, that will not be a surprise for her. The gun is much smaller though and may require some grip adjustments to keep everything out of the way, but she is already used to other small .380s. The P380 fits in my jeans pocket so nice, I was kind of hoping that she would not like it.

That's why she wants/needs to try one.

in ur analysis, but I would also take heed to what some say here about the P380 to. It has been a problem child since the git go and the jury is still out on it. .At least u have been for warned
More than likely never gonna find a rental range P380 ...

Hmmm... seems like she could just dry fire one in a local gun store. I understand if she wants to fire one though. The p380 is just as smooth shooting as the PM9/CM9 IMO.

apparently there's one for rent at the far south side of Austin (Lochart) and I made a local contact here in Austin who bought a P380 last weekend and offered it up so I got a couple leads.

I thought about just telling her we were going to get two. I'd get mine first, no trial required (as I hate the trigger on both our LCP and P3AT) and if she likes mine, she can get one too but pretending to play along with her request may keep me out of hot water for the time being by not getting two guns at once.

I want a pink one to date my black one.
If you were closer to Pa. I'd meet you somewhere. My P380 is quickly replacing my PM9 as my go to gun. I understand it's limitations and am ok with them. If I want more power, I go to the P45........or both

I thought I'd add an ironic update to this thread. To all the Kahr poo poo'ers, recommending I try the SIG P238... Well I did just that. My wife's shooting club also advised her to try the SIG over the Kahr so I bought a new one at the last gun show at a decent price.... Guess what? The brand new SIG has failure issues with a full mag..... LOL.... I'll buy the Kahr next time. I will add that with only five (5) in the mag, she said it shoots great and she loves it otherwise, but I'm pretty disgusted with the SIG and I'll buy myself a Kahr P380.

The Sig will get better. Don't worry. Get a P380 too.

turns out it's ammo picky. I wasn't at the range with her but the same brand (Prvi) FMJ from two different boxes acted differently. I've never had a problem shooting the loads of PRVI ammo I bought for the LCP and the P3AT so tonight I'll measure up the probmen cases and see what the fuss is about. The slide wouldnt fully return to battery with some of the ammo. I was struck at how cheap the sig's main spring appeared to be. Not a double spring, nor did it have nice clean flat ends. It looks like someone just cut it.
And yes, I'l lbe buying myself a P380
Although I usually agree whole heartidly with old JOCKO, in this case after hearing your dilema regarding the 380 ACP I have this to offer. If given my druthers I to would go with a 9mm over any .380 and for that matter I am a true believer in the 45 ACP cause bigger is better. Now on the other side of the coin, lately I have been toting my PM9 and backed up with my little bugger 22 mag "Pug". Now I agree there are times when one simply can't carry a pocket 9mm and then a .380 makes perfect sense to me...hell I have done itmany times, although I also carry a spare magazine to go, realizing its limitations. I also own both a P380 and a Sig 238. To be honest my sig has always been flawless. My P380 had a slight problem feeding certain brand nose configurations of hollow points, which was caused problems primarily with the first round or two from a fully loaded mag. Been getting better as of late along with help from the good folks at this sight with a slight magazine modification. Since my p380 still needs another 50 round or so go through her I will give the pistol the benefit of the doubt, after last weeks outing did feed and cycle the problematic 90 grain Gold Dots which had given such problems in the past. In the mean time I just feed her what she likes and that was Hornady Crtitical Defense. I truley beleive that these little guns are really pushing the design envelopes and consequently we as consumers will have to be aware of these little idiosincracies that they pocess.

Sig is sending me a new recoil spring. My pistol has the old flat wire style. It was a brand new pistol but new old stock apparently (about 1.5 years old), which was fine with me cauz i got a good price on it. I'm surprised SIG hasn't issued a recall on that spring. I'll be buying a wolf spring for it just as soon as one is offered, too. Right after I buy a P380.
And DDK, I do carry 9mm, 38spl, 357mag, and 40mm, the 380 just suits me best for certain applications. My wife just won't carry anything larger than a 9mm and regularly carries the 380, which is fine. We don't own any 45acp pistols yet but when we do, they will mostly likely be full size and I won't bother carrying something that big. In TX with hot weather and light clothing, just too easy to print and we don't have open carry.

At least she's carrying! :)
