View Full Version : Which Grip for CM9?

Looking to put grips on the new CM9 right away. Not sure which to get. Here's the list of that I know of, with what I think are the correct model #'s for the correct size.
Pachmayr (#4?)
Hogue Handall Jr (18000?)
Decal Grip Rubber
Decal Grip Sand
Talon Rubber
Talon Sand
DIY grip tape
Any input from the peanut gallery would be great. I like to research the piss out of my future purchases and buy it once and feel good about it.
(I don't want to end up with a drawer full of holsters, grips, bullets, etc that I thought would be good and end up collecting dust, I'm sure you guys of all people know what I'm talking about :D)

Of those listed, I have tried the Hogue Handall Jr and the rubber Talon grips. Of those, the Hogue gives the better purchase. I now have the Talons on the gun, because I wanted the slimmer grip, thinking it would conceal a little better.

I have a Pachmayr Tactical on my Kel-Tec .380 that I like a lot as it makes the grip a little more "beefy". That might not be what you want for a CM/PM 9.
For my Glock 26 I run the Talon "sand" grips and really like them on that particular gun.
For my PM9 I've been content with the bare grips - go figure.

I put a Hogue handall Jr on mine and ended up taking it off after a few different trips to the range. Just didn't feel right in the hand and it showed in my shooting. Haven't tried any of the others.

You might also consider Qwik Grips (http://www.qwikgrip.com/page2.htm). They are a little harder to find but match the texture Kahr molds into the polymer. I like them on my PM40.

Just got my qwik grips today. $9.99 shipped from eBay. It definitely feels more comfortable in my hand but I haven't had it to the range yet.

Yeah. I hesitated to suggest eBay because it is hard to predict what will be offered, but I agree that it is a good source.
Mine seemed to move around a little when I first put it on. A little really thin double backed tape underneath made it completely stable. :)
Yeah I know what you mean about eBay. Mine was here in 2 days and was the correct size. I ordered the #3(auction did not specify that it was #3 but it listed the size of the gun it fits(all glock subcompacts). Seller is rrhoutdoors if anyone else is interested in one.
The grip I got was very tight and it took some work to get it on there. Its definitely not going anywhere.

Ditto with the Qwik-Grip. I loved the positive grip it gives me on the gun, but it changed my trigger finger angle and affected my shooting.

I had the Hogue Handall Jr. It felt great but I removed it after it worked it's way down the grip while shooting and interfered with a reload.
I think I'm gonna try some type of adhesive sand or rubber texture next.

I really like the look of the talon grips, and they cover those cheese graters up front... took mine out for the first time today, and only problem I started to notice was my fingers hurtin a bit from those things. What does that "sand" grip feel like? is it like a sand paper feel? (maybe a grit comparison) Cause Im probably going with those, but would rather have the rubber for edc if the sand is pretty rough.

I haven't felt a sand grip on a Kahr but my son put skate board grip tape on his 3rd gen. G19 and it feels great!, although I can't say 1st hand how it will feel after a range session.

I had a hogue Jr. and it was fine and I likes it. I ended up taking it off just because it made the grip a little more sticky when trying to putt fromo the holster.
Darn, Kahr even put thought into their grips. the CW's are fine guns.

Talon rubber grips for me. Very comfortable, very thin, and I was able to install my CT laserguard right over them. It makes a nice little shooting package.

I ordered the Talon rubber grips last week but don't have them yet. I have the handall jr on my LCP and love it. If the Talon grips don't work I will try the Hogue's. I like how inexpensive this stuff is and don't feel bad if I dump one of them for another.

I had the Hogue Handall, Jr on my CW9 and ended up selling it. I went to the Lonewolf Qwik-Grip on my CM9 and CW9. Kept them for awhile and liked them quite a bit but they were a little thicker than I wanted, so I removed them in favor of the Talon Rubberized grips on the CW9 & CM9. I also put them on a couple of other pistols. So far I like them. They are inexpensive, go on nicely and give a solid grip. I also like that they are thinner.

Ordered up the Talon Rubber grips. Seems to me that is what everyone is opting for because of thickness... which is why we purchase the CM9 in the first place.
I am going to trace the talon grips when I get them and cut out that same shape with grip tape and see if I like the sandpaper texture or the rubber.
Thanks guys.

I would recommend purchasing both the rubber and sand paper from Talon Grips to see which you prefer when shooting. I had the sand paper grips for my Glocks and love them. When I got the CM I decided to try the rubber. I liked the rubber, but switch to the sand paper because it gave me better control whth less movement in the hands.

Interestingly, I just installed rubber Talon's tonight, and put the CT right back on over them. Looks great. Haven't shot it yet, but every little bit should help. The sand, I can't imagine trying to wear next to the body.

It makes a noticable difference in that your hand won't get punished by that cheesegrater backstrap any longer. For me me it gives the gun a nice feel and it looks good too.

I received the Talon rubber grips yesterday. I did not put them on yet because I am not sure if I will like them as much as a Hogue Handall Jr. Personality flaw of second guessing myself. Has any one taken the Talon rubber grips off? Do they come of without too much trouble?:o

Holy Schmoly you aint kidding. I just got the gun yesterday and did the clean & lube, then proceeded to rack the slide on and off for the rest of the night. Today all I can say is, OUCH!
Can't wait for those Talon Rubber grips... my hands will thank me I'm sure.

If you want the minimum, try hockey stick tape on just the graters. Carefully trimmed, they look almost like original equipment and the color matches the polymer well.
The sides of the grip still need a little more grip. Maybe the rubber talon there, trimming it to leave the hockey tape on front and back.
For now, I left the tape there and have put the Qwik-Grip back on. I can just grab the gun with a thumb and a finger tip or two lightly on that grip and the gun will not slip from my grasp. It really does feel nice, the additional width is negligible and the additional length from front to back, though slight, is welcome. For those with long fingers, additional layers of tape on the back under a Qwik-Grip could be the answer.

The grips don't bother my hands at all, although I am a diesel mechanic and have enough calluses to last a lifetime lol. I have a set of Talon sand paper grips coming, I've heard good things about them so figured I'd give them a try.

I've tried aftermarket grips in the past and always end up going back to the old bicycle innertube. Hint: cut a notch for the triggerguard and mag release so it goes all the way up in the back, a quick shot of the wife's hairspray will help keep it in place, and turn it inside out to hide the ridges on the tube. Takes the bite out of the "cheese graters" and gives a slightly tacky grip. With a little practice they even look pretty good too, and one tube will give you grips for years. I use 1 1/4" for the pm9 and 1 3/4" for my single stack .45 S&W.

I have Talon rubber on a Beretta Nano they are a little less aggressive than the sandpaper which I have also (ordered them both) Really good people to deal with, fast shipping I was blown away by how good they fit and feel. I am thinking of a PM40 and looking for reliability issues.

I put the Decal rubber grips on mine. Have not had a chance to try them out at the range yet.
Awhile back someone, I believe on this forum, suggested using a bicycle tire inner tube to make a rubber grip for the PM9.
Well, for less than $5 at Walmart, I got an inner tube and cut it to size for my PM9, works for me. It's a little snug going on but once it's on, it stays put.

It is a Daltech Force PP3. I do not know what is thinner and more comfortable than a nice piece of leather? Plus with the longer piece covering the entire grip there is no way of printing.

I had a Quick Grip on my PM9 and liked it a lot.
Yes, I have always used the sand paper grips on my Glocks but decided to try the rubber when I purchased the CM9. Not knowing if I would like it over the sand paper and since they are only $10, I purchased both the rubber and the sand paper. I put the rubber on and liked the feel. I shot 350 rounds in about 3 outings, but the gun would still jump more in the hands than I liked. This was more noticeable in the hot weather as my hands would sweat. I decided to take the rubber off, which it came off nicely without leaving any residue on the grip and I believe that it could be reused. I put the sand paper on and found that the gun would not jump in my hands at all when I shot it. The sand paper made such a huge difference over the rubber I could not believe it. The rubber is better than stock and it works great, but the sand paper is better for me.
Keep in mind that the sand paper can be sanded to reduce the roughness. Yes, it will wear into certain place on your hands when shooting over 100 rounds at one time. You do not want to wear it next to your skin. I do not have any problems with it sticking to my clothing. The rubber is a little easier to install because it is more forgiving around the corners, but the sand paper can be heated with a hair dryer to conform to the grip. For the price, I suggest purchasing both and use which feels the best to you. I do recommend trying the rubber first because I think it can be put back on, but do not hold me to this because I have not tried it.
Great job on that inner tube JimC. I like it. :D
Wasn't my idea so I won't take credit for it, but it works for me. :)

So.... anyone get their grips yet? Got the confirmation that mine shipped on 2/22 and as of 3/01 they still arent here.... Tried calling customer service when i got home, and it rang for a while then told me the person i was trying to call had not set up their voice mail. So I sent a "contact request" stating that they hadnt arrived. I will also try calling back tomorrow at an earlier time in the day to see if i can get someone on the phone. Hope all is well....

I've never tried the bike tube, so I can't comment but I figured 11 bucks for the one gun I have why not. If I had multiples I might go the cheaper route

The inner tube wasn't about cost, it about feel, traction, without adding too much to the grip.
As to cost, less than $5.00 and I have enough material for a bunch of Kahrs. ;)

Good information regarding inner tubes, but the OP wants more thickness.

jfootin Use the inner tube and add several layers of tube in varied widths to build up an area. I did that with both of my kahrs and some years ago with a KT during break in. Cut several strips. 3/4", 1 1/4", 1 3/4" and last one to custom fit . makes the grip thicker and works real well for control & comfort.
