I really want to get a carry melt done on a PM40 slide. Think Sig SAS kind of melt. I considered doing it myself, but I'm sure it world turn out lopsided and goofy looking. If you have any suggestions of shops that do good work like this, I'm all ears.

If I carried a 1911 race gun I would want a carry melt but seriously in my OPINION the pm9 is pretty meltie the way it is.

I highly recommend Accurate-Iron. Mike melted my CW9 slide and I love it. Top notch work and really reasonable cost and turn around time.
I did the sharp edges at the port area... pretty easy to do.

Anyone else ever notice that the rear cocking serrations on the slide are like Xacto blades or is just my PM9 thats like that?!?! I mean I could shave with the edges of those things if need be...
More like Ronco Vegimatic

Thanks Jocko. That's about the degree of melt I'm looking for. Looks really sweet. Went out to the Accurate-Iron website, but all they have is a contact email address so I sent them a note.

Maybe not the best pictures, but it should give you some idea how a CW-9 melt job looks after Mike (Accurate-Iron) get's ahold of it.

Based on recommendations from Zippo Guy and Jocko, I sent Mike at Accurate Iron an email earlier this week. Unfortunately, he's not taking on any work on Kahrs until the Fall at the earliest.
I also sent a note to David Bowie at Bowie Tactical. David didn't even bother responding to my email inquiry.
I'm seriously considering buying a spare PM40 slide and doing my own melt even though I'm sure it will end up janky and lopsided. If nothing else, it gives me a good excuse to buy a bench grinder/polisher.
I'll sleep on that decision for a few more days and hopefully I'll talk myself out of doing it myself.

If you buy a bench grinder invest in the correct sized flap wheel for it. DON"T try to use a grinding wheel to do that work. I would suggest about a 240 grit flap wheel to do the shaping and a ScotchBrite flap wheel to polish it up/blend it.

error on the side of caution, do some good experimenting with bar of steel first before ever gertingthat slide within 5 feet of any grinjder or what ever. U can't replae whatu take off, IMO best thing is t let a professional do it..

On this note, does anyone have good leads on a smitty to do the melting?

Check with Ahlman's (http://www.ahlmans.com/). Their turnaround time is pretty good.

I can vouch for Ahlmans smith work. I'm also pretty good friends with the guys out there. They are only about 10 minutes from my place. I'm new to Kahrs, what exactly is a "Melt job" ?

Sorry, it's the process of smoothing and rounding all the edges of a pistol slide

That and makes it extra smooth for a quicker draw. No sharp corners or edges to catch on stuff.
I love the look of them.
The K9 Elite 2003 is sorta melted. I think they're Uber Sexy.

That is sweet! I am really developing a fondness for Kahr's. I've always been a Glock and M&P guy.

The best way I've ever heard anyone explain slide melting was comparing it to a bar of soap. A factory delivered slide is like a bar of soap fresh out of the box. Slides that have been melted for carry comfort look like that same bar of soap after it's been used a few times. All the sharp edges have melted away and the slide loses some definition, but gains a sexy svelte appearance. Personally, I think they look great so that's why I want one in the PM series.

Hate to do it, but I think Robar is going to be the only option to get it done in a reasonable time frame. I'll bide my time until the next Norton Special offer comes up and join the melting and coating work into one job.

Clark's Custom Guns developed the technique. You might check with them. I don't know if they'll do Kahrs, but might be worth checking.

Thanks. I did check and they only do 1911's. That's some extreme melting that they do. They look great.

Thanks Jocko. Mike and I have exchanged emails and I found out he's actually located fairly close to me. We're keeping in touch and I hope to catch up with him at a local 3-Gun shoot this summer and drop off my PM40 with him.
You are 100% correct that he is working through his backlog and has shut off all new work for the time being.
