Just picked up my new CM9 today and going through all the prep but I can not get the base plate off the mag. I order another mag that also arrived today And had no problems with it. Any help or suggestions will be much appreciated.

suitable tool through the hole... press the retainer inward... jiggle the parts as needed while sliding the base itself off the back of the magazine.

I had a hard time tonight as well.

The plate should slide off by getting it started from the edge, then using your thumb to feed it off just like as if you were feeding a bullet into the top end. - just make sure to be ready to stop the spring from flying out!

I found when putting the thing back together I had to push the spring down, take the little inside metal piece and put it in place, then slide the baseplate back on over that. At first I was trying to push the spring down, then slide the plate and metal piece as one unit, but it would bind up and not allow the baseplate to slide any further than a couple millimeters.

A nail thru the last winess hole will hold the spring in place except for the last bit, making it much easier to take the baseplate off and back on.

Ah, you wusses using pins.... I use a pen... a ballpoint pen with the tip retracted to push down the locking plate and slide the base plate off.

To put the magazine back together, I hold the magazine in my weak hand, rear toward the "Y" of my thumb and left index finger. I use the right hand to press down the spring and the locking plate, while gathering in the spring with my left thumb. When get the locking plate and spring are flush with the top of the mag, I slide on the base plate. Try to do this in an uncluttered area in case you have an OOPSIE and things go flying.:D

It might be easier to insert a finish nail or small screwdriver through the witness hole, but I don't bother with this on Kahr mags. Whatever works for you.

Disassembly of the magazine is covered on page 22 of the manual.

pdf of manual:

http://www.kahr.com/PDF/kahrmanual.pdf

The instructions mention putting a pin in through a witness hole near the bottom of the magazine, reducing the spring pressure. Then you can use a ballpoint pen to push down on the locking "dimple" and try sliding the base using the pen until the dimple is away from the hole a bit and you can slide the base off, maintaining your thumb on the locking plate until the base is off, then you can carefully release the spring, retaining control of it.

E-mail Kahr service dept. Tell them of your problem. Request a replacement mag. Send bad mag back to Kahr. Problem solved.

Thanks for the suggestions. I had to finally stick a screwdriver into the base release hole and hit it with a hammer several times to get it to break loose afterwards I cleaned it and ran fifty rounds though it with no problems

Dang! That's weird. I've never had any mags that were stuck like that. I'm glad you got it apart and hope that's not a recurring problem.

I must have a special mag then, i can just push the bottom off, even when its fully loaded.... although it makes for a mess to clean up......

Eddie, I've learned over time that you should never use brute force to disassemble gun parts. You should always get a bigger hammer. :)
