View Full Version : CM9 7 round magazine issues. Tell me more

I've read about problems with the 7 rounders, and mine have been awful. I've had my CM9 now for almost 4 weeks. I did all the prep work recommended, and it shoots flawlessly with the six round mag. Over 300 rounds of FMJ and HP ammo through it without a single malfunction. As soon as I put the 7 round mag in the first feed does a nosedive and jams. I have two and they both do it.
I've cleaned them thoroughly. I've done the follower mod to both, but they are jamming before the follower gets anywhere near the mag release button. I've even ground down the slide lock lever pin as recommended. I know others have been having issues with the 7 rounders. Short of sending them back, is there a fix to this problem? New spring?
Any one else been through this care to share their solution? Thanks.

I also bought two 7 round mags as backup and had nothing but problems with them nosediving the 2, 3, or 4th round. The first round fired fine and they loaded fine. Gave up and bought some 6 rounders and returned the 7 rounders to Kahr. Waiting to see if they will replace them with 6 rounders. The pistol works flawlessly with the 6 round mags but the 7 rounders are a real problem for a lot of people. Others have no issues. Odd because I've not heard of much problems at all with the 7 round mags with the PM9. With the hit and miss issues I can only attribute it to loose QC on the current manufacturing of the 7 round mags.

When you load the mag, do you tap it to make sure the bullets are all the way back in the mag?

Yep do it with all mags when I load them.

Email Kahr, tell them the problem and that you would like to ship them the 7 rounders and exchange them for 6 or 8 rounders.
Problem solved.

yep, same here. Always tap the mags. With the 7 rounders, it makes no difference.

I fixed mine by trading it for another 6 round mag, my PM9 runs good now. I'm somewhere where close to 1.5k rounds now.
I also ground down the 7 round mag follower for clearance and it still jammed one of the first few rounds. I took off enough where it cleared the mag release arm completely. I put that follower in my 6 round mag before I sent the 7 round mag back, and the modded follower broke off the front leg a couple hundred rounds later. The broken follower still ran perfect in the 6 round mag, I only noticed it when reloading the mag with more bullets.
You said yours always jammed loading the first round? Are you using the slide release to load the first round?
One guy here modded his mag follower for more angle, he sanded the follower with sand paper around a pencil if I remember right. That makes sense to me, all the problems are nose down jams. The followers are cheap enough to replace if you try that.
I'm supprized that Kahr hasn't made a change in the 7 round mag with all the problems I've heard of.
Good luck and keep us posted if you get it figured out,
James

Today I did this, went back to the range and fired 6 loads through each mag without a single jam. Before, I would get a nosedive EVERY TIME. If you're having the nosedive problem with your 7 rounders, keep this in mind. Also ordered a couple of stronger springs from Wollf. I think the springs on the 7 rounders are too weak.

I just last week sent my 7-rounder back for this issue. I must say that they were polite about exchanging it - no questions asked.

The 7rd mag is a common problem. My advice is don't even take it out of the bag but instead call Kahr and ask for an exchange for either another 6rd or an 8rd, both of which have proven to be good.

Mine had a need. I sanded the follower first so it wouldn't hang up on the mag release, but it still did the nosedive number, and did it before the follower got anywhere near the mag release. The second mod, referenced in the link I posted, solved the problem.
Makes one wonder if kahr arms tests out their spare mags at all before shipping them. Seems like designing a better follower would solve 95% of the gun issues.
