I was going in with the intention of getting the CM9.
The CW fits my hand better.
I haven't shot yet.

If you're not going to pocket carry then the CW9 is a fine choice. Best of luck wioth your new Kahr.

I did the same thing started out wanted the cm9 but decided I really didn't want to pocket carry and the cw fit my hand perfectly so it was a no brainer. One more round and a slightly longer barrel also helped sway me. Great gun it took me a few range trips to get the trigger down but once I got it I can now shoot it dead on from 15 feet in.

Yeah. Going to the range in next few days. Any ammo reccomendations? Federals sometimes have fails to feed...but are cheap.

Wally World Winchester White Box. Usually always in stock, cheap. Shoots well in the CM9.

Re ammo:
When I got my CW9 for Christmas, I went to a good store that was having an ammo sale and bought one box of everything they had in 9mm. At the range I took careful notes, but that turned out to be unnecessary: it turns out my gun eats whatever I feed it.

200 rounds through on saturday. Only the slide failed to go back forward all the way. twice. It resolved itself. Then fired fine. No failures to feed, no misfires, hangfires or anything.

Once I got more used to trigger was shooting fine at 7yds, 15 yrds, and at least hitting the target at about 25 yards.

200 more rounds through last weekend.
147 Grain , Winchester Hollow Points(100 rounds)
119(I believe) grain, Winchester white box.

No problems except on the user! Still getting used to the gun, finding good place to hold, best ammo etc.

A learning process.

I also have a Ruger Sr22 pistol that is marvelous. So far 1200 rounds only two misfires from Federal Shok.

Love em both

Congrats on the new CW9s, guys. I might be looking at getting one for my wife. I let her try racking my P40 which is about the same size and she didn't like it. I hate the thought of getting her a revolver that only holds 5 or 6 shots and is harder and slower to reload... while riding a bike. :D

She thinks the K9 is too heavy.

I'm going to set her up with a "Get-Home" bag and a folding bike to carry in the trunk of her car. Of all of the possible calamities "available" to worry about, the EMP thing worries us the most, especially if it happens while she's 9 miles away at work. I want to get her a pistol because that would be her only protection in that event. She's not used to autos... just used the S&W Model 15's in the USAF. I don't know if she was ever introduced to the 9mm's. Those came into service after I retired, for aircrew use. We were using various models of the Model 15 or something similar. I can remember carrying my some own reloads... some 146(?)-gr JHP loads for extra ammo... probably +P. It was a 140+ grain JHP that I used with .357 magnums using Win 231 powder.

Anyhow, can anyone tell me how hard it is to rack the CW9, compared with the PM9, or maybe the CM9? I think my wife needs a lot of practice and to build up some strength for racking the pistols. She wants it to be easy. :)

There aren't any gun shows here until June and July. And I missed out on a few sales offered here.:(

Oh! Roy Rogers... we lived in Tampa back in the early 50's and once we drove to Sarasota or someplace south of us to see Roy. We got there late, I guess, and all we got to see was Trigger's tail in the horse trailer as they pulled away!

I did have an autographed 8x10 glossy photo of Lash LaRue until it felt apart from age and handling. My mother met him when she was a waitress in a bar in Tampa.

My father in law was Roy Rogers cousin. My wife has pictures of he and Dale sitting in their living room back in the 60's. Congrats on your new kahr. Methinks you'll love it.

wyn. IMo if she can't rack the P40 the cw series is not going to be any better. U know it is alot of time mind over matter and if the thinks she can't do it, then she can't. Buy her a wheel gun and give her confidence or something else than a kahr that she can hand rack with EASE. It aiin't ever gonna get easy with a kahr. It can get better but I think u have an uphill battle to make her comfortable with a kahr. Just sayin.

That's what I'm thinking, Jocko. I think she just needs to make up her mind that she needs to shoot and learn how to work the slide and changing magazines. I think she needs to go with me to the range and shoot the K9 and the PM9. The CW9 is somewhere in between the two. I think she would be okay with the slightly larger than the PM9 and lighter than the K9, CW9.

The easiest slide to rack is my humongous S&W 645... very light slide rack, but large and hefty.

if she is dedicated to learn then u might have a good chance of getting her into a kahr bu tit wonmt be a one time opr 5 times range thing and then she is confident. No slam against kahr here either but IMo they are the hardest guns to hand rack and for mopst women doubaly as hard to do. My wife is a so so shooter and she cannot hand rack any of my 3 kahrs with any sense of regularity, so there fore I wouldnot buy her on and I just resort back to a nice DA Smith J frame with corbon silver tip GLASER rounds. She can unload it easily and reload it easily, she know how to pull the trigger if necessary.

gonna be a tuff sell Wyn, IMO, but for sure work wikth her before buying another kahr, unless u realy wantto own another kahr urself. It is mind over matter as u well know. Women just don't get it like we mean do with firearms, no more than I do with cooking. NOR DO I WANT TO. I just tell my wife, leave the protection tome, but keep my belley full. wokred so far for 27 years.

factory spring sin your K series is 20# wolffs makes an 18# spring, so one can reduce --somewhat without any harm..

\a suggestion kwyn, if u have an extra recoil spring for ur k series, clip off a coil and see if she can hand rack it, if not clip of a half coil more to see. wolffs makes a recoil spring lower than factory for K series kahrs. My point is that if she can work her way into that, then maybe u could be a few springs from kahr for a cw9 and start clipping one spring back until she can hand rack it kand then test out to see how it is functionality. No doubt one can go to far and the gun will not be reliable but again kahr used to make a lady PM9 and allit was basically was a weaker recoil spring, which they still offer toda6 for the old style blunt noxe PM9, so IMO u could clip off some to see is she can handle it then, and at the worst u have ruined a recoil spring and at the best u have made the gun workable forher. Not like she is gonna shoort 5k rounds out of it either and if so for range use, reinstall standard springs. My thoughts are that if she can make a cw9 work with cut springs that eventually she will work into the standard spirng andifnot, no big deal. The gunb goes bang, she is nowconfident in its usage etc. win win any way u look at it.

being u have a K series, u already have the test gun.
good luck friend.

Thanks, Jocko, that has been a thought of mine, too, clipping and trying weaker recoil springs. I do have spares and I have my original K9 spring, too, though that might be the ONE that's still in the gun! I never noticed that sucker getting weaker! I'm not sure of the round count, but after 14 years, I must have fired over 1,200 rounds or so. I don't throw anything away... especially gun parts, so I'll see if I have changed the K9's recoil spring, yet. If not, maybe clipping that will help... from the front or "open" end.:D

open end for sure. I would bet the 18
# reduced poundage is less coils over what u have now which tells me u can do it totest out with zero harm. keep me informed--plus or minus results.

If it was my gun, I would cut coils off the spring that isin thegun now even, it has already taken its set so the length is already established.

I stopped in a pawn shop one day back in the late 80s, and they had a used 645 for sale. It had some holster wear, but looked well cared for. When I tried the trigger, I was amazed. The DA pull was lighter thn my CM9 with 5 lb striker spring! Big gun, though. Not a CC piece.

I'll check at the range, too, maybe they have a CW9 rental.
