Considering trying this round out over the 115gr for carry, but I've heard of I believe failure to feed especially maybe failure to eject with this round. Seems like it would feed more reliably than other hollowpoints because the polymer insert though

I might carry the Critical Duty in a dedicated car gun for its barrier effectiveness, but not for everyday carry. By default, I want to avoid overpenetration of barriers, not encourage it. Stick with the Critical Defense. (IMO)

Hornady bullets have a lot of taper and they always feed 100 % in my PM9. I load 115 and 124 gr XPT's, they look the same without the polymer filler in the tip. I'm not aware of anyone having problems with any of the Hornady bullets.

I agree with BrewerGeorge, too much penetration for CCW use. Stick with Critical Defense if you are using with Hornady.

Thank you for the insight!!!

I was thinking about the critical defense because i'm somewhat apprehensive about using a 115grain round for personal defense. I think I've seen that lighter round's performance is more heavily impacted by the short barrel, but I'm not sure.

Do you think a 115grain round will perform well in the Kahrs short barrel. I mean lets face it, state of the art ammo especially from a company like Hornady should get the job done, right?

If you're worried about the short barrell being an issua, there's a short barrell sd round out there. I think its one of speers gold dots. Someone correct me if I'm wrong about the brand.

way to much advertisng hype by these ammo makers. THEY WILL ALL DO THE JOB. 99.995% of all of us will never fire in anger or defense, so again THEY WILL ALL DO THE JOB.

#1 has to be total reliability, after that IMO THEY WILL ALL DO THE JOB. Jsut sayin.

if you dig around hornady's website, you'll find that they don't recommend the 135gr+p out of short barrels. so if you want to carry a hornady load, i'd stick with the 115gr or better yet a heavier bullet from their defense line.

speer markets a 124gr+p load for short barrels, but it's pricy. personally, i like a heavy 147gr jhp in a short barrel. winchester ranger, federal hst and remington golden sabers being the cream of the crop in my opinion. just for recommendation's sake, a 50rd box of winchester 147gr ranger t's can be had for $23.19 at cheaperthandirt.com right now. this load should perform better than the hornady 115gr and is cheaper per rd to boot. just a suggestion...

i know you are talking about 9mm but crit duty has not been released yet in 9. i recieved a box of 40 175gr from midway today and shot 1 rd of crit duty and 1 rd crit defence out of pm40 into a 3" thick msc catalog. the crit def went in half way shed its jacket and split into 4 pieces. the crit duty went just a little farther and remained whole in a kind of lopsided mushroom. if it does this in 9 then it will become my pm9 carry load. jeff

I have been wanting to try some standard pressure 147gr HPs in my CM9. How is the recoil compared to 124gr +p?
