Hey everyone here's some pics of the work I've done to my PM9
I started with a wood file and reduced the beaver tail hump so I could get a higher grip and then picked up the soldering iron and proceeded to stipple the front, right side and rear of the grip. I left the side that contacts my body free of stippling to avoid discomfort. Then I removed the slide and took a grinder to the slide release until holes began to form from the cavities that are inside the release lever, I then T.I.G welded it up using stainless steel wire and filed it,adjusting the engagement to the slide until it released a little better and finally polished it to my liking, now my thumbs dont get chewed up and I can grip it how I always wanted to without hovering my thumbs so as not to bump the release. Then I picked up the slide and took the razor sharp edges off the grip grooves at the rear with a ceramic stone. At the range I've noticed that the higher grip allowed by the beaver tail reduction helps alot with follow up shots and accuracy. All in all I really like this little gun and wouldnt trade it for anything on the market, It is in my waistband anytime I'm wearing pants and easy to carry all day long.. :D
Not so sure on the slide release shape - but so long as it works....
Finish that crazy stipple job, pilgrim!

The slide release on that bad boy looks really nice! I think the left side was left unstippled intentionally? Maybe for IWB carry?

So lets hope its always in your waistband :19:
Can you elaborate more on how you rounded up the slide serrations?

I used a needle file set both round and triangular as well as a piece of round ceramic that was about 1/2'' in dia. to finally rid the slide serrations of the razor edges. I slid the round side of the ceramic on the edges of the serrations and the dia. of the circle prevents the ceramic from touching the bottom lands of the serrations and leaving unwanted marks there. As far as the files...this is a little touchy if you are worried about little scratches I recomend taping the surrounding areas to be filed prior to beginning with the file.

The slide release shape is entirely determined by the dimensions of the various machining and contact points needed to make it function..in other words the decision to reduce its size also determined its new shape..Function before form in my book, I fully realize it does not look like the rest anymore but really feel that the high ,tight, thumb on thumb hold works best on this little pistol so the sacrifice was made. The stippling is quite agressive, it works well while shooting and probably would feel like a wood rasp against my waist so it was omitted on the driverside:yo:

On second thought, too large a pattern. To each his own.

Showing some real skill there, MP! Does the grip touch your bare skin? If so, get one of these and finish that stipple job (it's driving me crazy!).

great one BAWANNA does absolutley super grip stipplying. but the botom line is there is just a hell of alot of talent on this forum, very nice work on that kahr. I jsut demeled the pss out of my slide stop when I did the contour mod. I never had an issue with hitting it by accident as I am a lefty but I just thought I wanted to contour it and make it less and then I even went further and where the pin sticks out on the right side, I then countoured it to be even with the frame. looks like a frame pin now but I still have no problem getting the slide stop out. Again at the worst I was just gonna ruin a slide stop lever, at the best I got what I wanted. No harm no foul.

Simply awesome. Best stipple job I've seen.
To the OP: it is your gun and if it works for you that's awesome, please don't take my comments personally.
Opinions do vary, I do not care for that aggressive type of stippling.. Some of the better ones I've seen are using a small needle instead of a soldering iron, see attachment.

I personally am fonder of the finer stipplying feel over the more agressive but we all have our own desires. For some it is even more for looks than practacality...
I do think Bronco AZ u could have been maybe a tad bit more tactful, Just sayin..
I mean like sayin. don't take this wrong but i think ur mom is the most butt ugly woman I have ever seen. A pre apology in that case just doesn't get the job done. Just sayin!!

Jocko, you're right, it was a little nasty. I tamed it down a bit. I've seen a lot of nice polymer frame guns ruined with a soldering iron. Resale value is zero and there is no going back.
Not a good excuse for my since edited comment, but I've been sick for a couple of days and have been doing battle with some of the regulars on glocktalk.

well I have my PM9 stippled and it was done professionaly and it looks to most like SH-T and ur right, it will hurt resale value big time, if that is ur intentions. My intentions is that I will keep this gun until the BG takes it out of my dead hands, Alof of gun mods bring zero value other than to the owner. and one has to make that decision before grabbing his wallet. certainyl grip stippling is something that u can't go back to first base again, u can modify and remodify and re re modify until you have no grip left but no going back. u did right Bronco AZ and the momma thing was just something off the top of my head, but I did hear a rumor that when you was a baby in the hopstial that your mom and dad tried to leave the hosptial with someone else's child. Just sayin, course u know how rumors get started..:D

My folks tried a two for one deal, trading someone's nice female baby for both me and my then 3 year old brother :p Unfortunately for them it didn't work, but they didn't think to stipple me as punishment (although 2 years later my brother did try to stipple my nose with the cigarette lighter in Mom's 78 Mercury station wagon).

While i do like the very thin stipples here, do you have any idea how one would stipple with a needle? If i have to sit there with a sewing needle and a lighter, and heat that ***** every time i poke the grip, i'd rather find something better to do for 80 hours :w00t:... but if there's a trick, i'm all ears :hungry:

You don't need an actual needle, take the tip for the soldering iron and grind it into a sharp narrow point. Methods vary, but many of the ones I've seen are dragging the hot point across the material making longer thin lines that can be randomized after by going across or poking them.

That's what I used on my maiden voyage and it worked splendidly. There were several different tips that simple screw on and off the heater so you can mix and match or whatever.
I was really surprised how easily and quickly it was to do. Takes me 7 or 8 hours to checker a set of grips, I did my complete stipple in 30 minutes or less at casual speed and it would go much faster next time now that I know how it works.

Looks like you did a nice job. I personally am not into stippled guns as I don't always keep them and figure it might hurt more than help the resale value. If you like it that's all that really matters though.

No way Renee, there was a warning that said the mother gets really hot if you plug it in so I just put the proper tip in and turned it back and forth really fast.
Heck it might have slipped out of my hand and landed in my crotch and seriously burnt myself, then I'd have to sue McDonalds and the electric company for grievous injuries and mental anxious or lack there of.

Of course to the main house. No juice out to the outhouse so we use a lantern or take care of business before dark.

im a noob so my opinion means squat but.... i wish you had worked around the kahr logo instead of over it when you did the stippling job. but there is a bonus..with the bold stippling you can always use it to make hash browns at the camp fire.
