I took my PM9 to test my new 7 round magazine that I picked up before reading that it sucks. I ran two magazines full of each of the 7 rounders with no issues using Remington UMC FMJ. Next, I loaded them with Hornady Critical Defense. The second round of one of the 7 round mags (the one that came with the gun) failed to feed. The round was stuck with the nose touching the feed ramp, pretty much level with the barrel. Tapping the slide forward fed the round and all others functioned fine. I was able to repeat this issue with this magazine. The other 7 round mag functioned flawlessly.

Have others experienced any feeding issues with the CD round from any magazine? Would the magazine mod be in order to deal with this issue? Should I simply try another self defense round for better results? Should I contact Kahr with the issue?

In full disclosure, the gun is second hand purchased from a close friend, so not sure what that means as far as the warranty goes.

I would appreciate any advice. Thanks!

There's quite a few threads here about the 7 round mags. Some have no problems. Both of mine had horrible jamming problems. Doing the modifications to the mag followers fixed both of mine. If you don't feel like doing it, send it back to kahr and I'm sure they'll give you a new one. The way I look at it, the mod took five minutes, and had it not worked, the plastic follower can be easily replaced for next to nothing. By the way, my 7 rnd. mags had the problem with any ammo I put in it. No question you need to get the problem fixed before you decide to carry it for PD.

I must be lucky as the 7rd that came with my used PM9 worked just fine. I shot it extensively when I got the pistol from a forum member here.

Haven't used it since - I prefer the smaller 6rd.

Thing to consider - 7 rd mags seem to work just fine in P9 and CW9 pistols, but not in PM9 pistols. There is not much difference there, except the base plate.

So - there is still something to the idea that the finger rest is being manipulated during firing, and contributing to the problem folks hare having.

I'd love for somebody to put a two finger hold on their PM9 with a "problem" 7rd magazine, and report back. That is - fingers off the magazine while shooting.

will exchange ur 7 rd mag for a 6 round mag is u call or writhe them. IMO u should not rely on the 7 round magazine if it falters a few times even, other than for range use. Your PM9 is a small ass gun designed to be that way, why anyone IMO would want to put a longer magazine son this small ass gun to me makes no sense. Buy the cw9 if u nee dthe 7 round magazine. that being said they should work andif they don't u can do the follower mod done on this forum in 5 mijutes to cure all, beats pounding ur head against the wall. If u send the 7 round bgack in exchange for anothe r7 round, expect no different in reliability. either do the follower mod or get a 6 round flush fit and your good to go..

Since the 8rd mags apparently work well, if you still want an extended mag request the 8rd mag in exchange for the 7.

I bought two extra 7 round mags at the time I bought my first Kahr PM-9 in December. After reading all the negative reviews on the 7 rd mags, i decided to ship my three 7 rounders off to Kahr. Of course I emailed them first and they agreed to swap. They are going to swap them for one 6 round and two 8 rounders. That way I'll have a carry set and a range set, 6 rounder in the gun, nice reliable 8 rounders for back up.

Thanks all for the advice! The reason I want the extended mags is to carry for reloading if the SHTF. I am going to try out some Winchester PDX1 and see how that goes and if it functions fine I will not worry about it any longer. If it causes any further issues, I will contact Kahr and see what they say. Thanks again.

guys doesn't matter the rd ct of the kahr mags. its the followers that are fubar. you have to do the mod to them.

I don't, but given the choice between 7 rounds in my back up mag or 8 rounds, I'll take 8. One more round can't hurt and it's just as easy to carry. Besides, the 8 round mags are known for reliability whereas the 7 round mags are not. In a carry gun, I'll take the piece of mind of knowing that there is (even if ever so slightly) a better chance that my back up mag is more reliable than the alternative. So far, I have put 150 rounds through my PM-9; 100 in the six round zine and 50 in one of my 8 rounders. Flawless thus far.

^^^ Based on responses, nobody has had failure with 8rd but many do 7rd.

I went out Saturday with my CM9, three 6rd mags, and one 7rd. Shooting WWB, I spent a lot of the day doing holster work, quick point and shoot, that sort of thing. All 4 mags behaved just fine. Then I decided to end the day just doing slow two-handed shooting to see how accurate I could be with the CM9. Both times through the 7rd mag I got the nose dive on the 3rd round. So there must be something to how the gun is being held that makes that 7rd so touchy. I had been real pleased with it (it was the promotional one from Kahr), but now I am thinking about asking for an exchange.

Maybe I am wrong, but I thought the idea is to have the 6rd magazine in the gun and the 7 round as a backup in your pouch.
