P9 slide stop
Its where they marked the spot.....
I dunno, lets see a picture of it!
Funny story...
I was out for dinner with an associate. We're waitin' outside at a raw bar, and he needs to go put some more money in the meter. So... I get talking to a gal who was alone, waiting for her guests to arrive. My associate returns, and we three get talking, and she also is into manufacturing, and as luck would have it (bad luck) her plant is next to our plant - in Juarez Mexico.
Recently, we had some body parts arrive in a shipment - almost - they were caught at the border. Her story was that her company makes disposable medical linens for OR use, and they find messages scrawled in lipstick or marker pen on the "sterile" linens. Sometimes things happen at factories that nobody can explain... fully at least.
And all you got was an X on the slide... !!!!

no doubvt some proof or vendor mark. call kahr and ask if it bothers u..
Obviously applied via human hand, not stamp or engraving machine....
The question remains, which human and for what purpose?
All bets off.... clueless here on this one.

My new P9, bought new from a dealer, has an "X" inscribed on the metal inside the slide near the end of the muzzle...anybody have any idea why/what that means, if anything?
i have the same thing on my brand new CW9???? i wondering about it too:confused:

That's no proof mark. We used to scribe an X on defective parts that were destine for the scrap hopper. I'd call Kahr on that one.

Yeah, I think I'd call on that one. Maybe the slide was defective and got marked, and they fixed it and slapped it on a new frame. Maybe some knucklehead was playing Kilroy was here. Who knows, I'd call for sure, just to satisfy my curiosity.

I sent the picture with the "X" to Kahr this morning...let's see what they say and I will report back. Worrisome? Not sure here; one report I heard was that the techs mark the pieces during assembly to make sure they get the right slides and frames together? Sounds pretty suspect, or at least primitive to me.

Let us know what they say. My cm9 has the same thing on it. New to guns, so I didn't think much of it. Now that I know its not standard I'm curious.

Darel, what about the picture date of June 11, 2005? When did you buy this gun? Explain the DATE.

Kahr hired an inspector who couldn't read or write so they have him sign his name with an X. Or, maybe the techs that can't read what is plainly engraved on the slides so they mark them with an X.

LOL. That is a camera issue...the picture was taken yesterday, March 4, 2012. I have NO IDEA how to fix the date thing on the camera.

Got this answer back this morning after I sent the picture and serial number in to Kahr. Sounds like all is okay so I can rest my mind on this one I think. Whew!
Good morning. I apologize for the delay. After some digging I have found that the mark was made by our inspection department just to track a particular batch of slides. It is in no way indicative of any issue. I hope this information helps.

again Imo IF IT AIN'T BROKE DON'T FI IT. NO one knows it is there but u the owner. actually IMO kind of a sloppy proof mark. A small stamped X could have done the same job that a scribe tool..

needless to say I did not stay in the teaching profession. but when in the class my motto was DO AS I SAY AND NOT AS I DO. I was better then than I am now. today though as u can see I just don't give a sh-t, back 45 years ago I gave a half sh-t.

I think that these were rejected at one time on the line or just didn't pass inspection for some minor problem and they corrected/salvaged and were made good after some one on one. Kahr wouldn't use any bad parts on their guns. They would "ONLY BE SHOOTING THEMSELVES IN THE FOOT". (he-he) :)

When I was in High School my strongest asset was debating. I really tried to get into the debating class but they talked me out of it!! :)
If you want to get that out - make the X be gone... PM me.

well u might also have a point, some times they do take alittle TLC with some rejected parts that just need minor tweeking. It would have been neater had they just stamped a small x on the inside of the slide, I guess one could polish it out but again WHY, o one is going to see or kow it is there but u the owner and if it workds DON'T FIX IT. the reason the x was there was explained by Jay from kahr, so we gotta go with what he said. We don't make um , we just shoot um like we stole it.

I have the X in my CW9 slide. Didn't even notice till I read this thread. It's got 350 rounds through it without exploding or anything so I guess it's OK.:yo:

There isn't really enough depth in the inscribed mark to create any major failures, but I definitely would expect accelerated wear in that spot. That being said, not everyone is going to shoot 32,000 rounds through their pm9. Or in this case CW9.:)
Why couldn't Kahr inscribe an X along one of the grooves towards the rear of the slide (or any other non friction point)? This is pretty lame if you ask me...
Especially since an x denotes bad.....to track some slides...stamp a letter....
