This, from Walmart or anywhere:

http://www.crcindustries.com/ei/content/prod_detail.aspx?PN=05174&S=Y

Lubricates and eliminates squeaking and binding caused by friction. Film is clean, odorless, and highly resistant to water. Use on nylon, rubber, metal & non-metal surfaces.

Applications:
Wood, plastic, metal and rubber surfaces. Use in moist and harsh environments. Not for use as an appearance cleaner or on paint.

I think that is more of a lubricant than an actual cleaner. CRC makes a non cholorinated cleaner. I use fromwal mart BrakeKleen.

Gee, everytime I post about this stuff, you have something negative to comment about it, usually what you think, based on...what:confused:?

Why not take a chance, spend $2, and see for yourself?
I could send you a can or $2 gift card:biggrin1:,

CRC Brakleen® Non-Chlorinated is listed for $2.60 per can at: http://www.amazon.com/CRC-BRAKLEEN-NON-CHLORINATED-15-OZ-AEROSOL/dp/B000CCM3LU

Works great for me and is always available at our local auto parts store.

Perhaps Jocko says not to used silicone spray in the striker channel, because Kahr says not to lubricate the striker channel. Oils attract dirt and oil is hydroscopic. Three very good reasons not to use oil in the striker channel.

Any brand of non-chlorinated brake cleaner will do. CRC brake cleaner is available at just about any auto parts store. The non-chlorinated type is recommended, because it won't harm the polymer frame or the environment.

I asked the NAPA guy what the differences were in the different Non-Chlorinated brake cleaners that he had on the shelf.
His answer.... the label.... it's all the same stuff.
Buy the cheapest stuff they have (had NAPA branded stuff on sale for $1.80 per can so I bought 6)...

Why not just detail strip the slide? It takes 2 minutes and you can get everything perfectly clean.

Oh and I saw some posts about silicone. Silicone is a dry lubricant, it does not attract dirt, dust or particles. Spray down the striker and other internals with silicone and let them dry while you move on to something else. Silicone is your friend.

Yep! And if you do, the red can might be a larger can at a higher price, but slightly cheaper per ounce than the green can. At least that was the case the last time I visited my local auto parts store.

So, now we have Christmas colors on the shelf in the garage. http://home.mindspring.com/%7Ejustsomeguy/icon_lol.gif

Did you tell the "guy behind the counter" that you intended to use the cleaner on a $800.00 handgun with a polymer frame? Chlorine when combined with water forms hydrochloric acid. If you are only going to shoot in the high dessert where there is no moisture it should be safe enough. How many pennies do you think you'll save by ruining your gun?

How often does the striker hole need to be cleaned?
And... do you just spray the hole, area?

Yeah, just stick the end of the nozzle that comes with most brake cleaner aerosols into the hole Kahr provided on the bottom of your slide and spray till you feel confident the crud is blasted out of the striker channel.

Some people do it every time they clean the gun. It depends on whether or not you are getting crud in there. And, that depends on your ammo.

With experience you will form your own opinion. ;)

There is a red plastic tube that comes with the cleaner. Insert one end of the tube into the nozzle of the can of spray and the other end of the tube into the striker hole. A one or two second shot is all that is necessary. If you do it over a paper towel you will notice that a bit of brass flakes have been expelled. I clean the striker slot about every two hundred rounds. That may be more often than necessary, but I like guns that go bang when I pull the trigger.

You can use this. The brand isn't important, it's the non-chlorinated part that's important.

EDIT:Crap! Maybe I should read past page 1 before I respond.:o

Just to confuse things I use CLP - First, it cleans pretty good, second I've got tons of the stuff, and third, it has some teflon dry lube. I think the break cleaner is probably better - because that channel can really in it gunk up - but I have so many gun cleaners lying around (the damn things are like holsters) that I just can't get another.

I blow it out after each cleaning (generally each trip which is 50 to 100 rounds) and there is ALWAYS dirt in the channel even thoulf it looks like a place that would not need much care. So keep it clean!

Why not just tear it down if you want to clean it? It's not that difficult. As for spraying anything in there, no thanks.

I don't think mine will ever get as nasty as it came from the factory and I still didn't have even failure of any sort.

I think we make way to uch todo about these cleaners. They are all basically ther same stuff. if it is non cholorinated, then it is safe to use in poymer guns. Pretty hard today to find any cleanerrs that are cholorinated. I think epa is involved in alot of this stuff to and some brake parts todaqy do have pol;ymer parts in them, so changes in chealers had to come. Now I see cans are being labeled low in VOS. I have no clue whta that is but again it smells like EPA stuff. Clean ur gun often, strip it down entirely if ta tis your desire, use the pea hole o the bottom of the slide to spray clean if u desire other wise. cleanliness if next to Godliness. Some cleaners do smell better than others. I recommend wearing rubber gloves when using ANY GOOD CLEANERS for if they clean like they should then they will also take the oil out of ur skin to and cause dryness. Hand lotion for sure if no gloves are worn. As with any spray cleaner to, keep um all away from wood grips. They will damage thefinish. I learned that awhile back with some Hoppe's #9. I got some on my wood grps and couldn't believe how fast they messed up my grips.

We give recomendations here for good cleaners, YMMV..

I tore mine down out of curiosity after 1500ish rounds, cleaned w/ NC brake cleaner twice…still a lot of crap in there.
Replacing recoil spring and a striker channel clean up every 1500-2000 going forward.

tinnman's is the best, very hard to find, u have to look in the female isle at wal mart, forget abot Napa. they don't stock it. It's not cheap compared to the 3M stuff which is my favorite but let me tell u around any gun club u mention gun douche and they ALL KNOW about it.

My wife just yelled in and said Victoriia's secret has it all the time. Hope that helps. Just sayin

sources for cleaner

NAPA for 3M
AUTOZONE for CRC and other non cholorinated cleaners
WAL MART: Brakekleen
VICTORIA SECRET: gun Douche and they also sell Douche +P it has some real hot fragrance to it. U 40 cal fans might like that stuff better.
PRICILIAS: gUN Douche, actually there brand is labeled P-ssy cleaner: same stuff, but has alittle fragrance in with it. Pricislia's calls um what they are, no disguises.

Good luck
