Rick Santorum:

If you’ve watched any of the Presidential debates, you’ve noticed that Rick Santorum claims time and again to be a “fighter” who has “led on conservative issues.”

Rick Santorum’s record on the Second Amendment, however, tells a different story.

In the 90s, he voted to support the Lautenberg Gun Ban, which stripped law-abiding gun owners of their Second Amendment rights for life, simply because they spanked their children or did nothing more than grab a spouses wrist.

He voted for a bill in 1999 disguised as an attempt to increase penalties on drug traffickers with guns... but it also included a provision to require federal background checks at gun shows.

In 2000, Santorum voted to force pawn shops to require a background check on anyone coming into the store to sell a firearm.

And then he voted with gun-controlling Democrats Dianne Fienstein and Frank Lautenberg to mandate locks on handguns in 2005.

But worst of all, Rick Santorum has a storied history of bailing out anti-gun Republicans facing reelection.

Rick Santorum came to anti-gun Arlen Specter’s defense in 2004 when he was down in the polls against pro-gun Republican Pat Toomey. Specter won and continued to push for gun control during his years in the Senate.

He also supported and openly campaigned for anti-gun New Jersey governor, Christine Todd Whitman.

It certainly appears that Rick Santorum has no regrets about his past anti-gun record. Worse, it appears he’d be happy to continue along this path as President.

RP is the only one that isn't full of sh&t and spewing lies in an attempt to get elected. I find it supremely ironic that republicans won't rally around him. He's by the book and wants to run this country based on the constitution - something that republicans and tea partiers say they want. But because he's a non-interventionist, and wants to reduce the size of our military, he's written off in favor of a bunch of liars. If republicans would support RP he'd have a very good chance of winning, as he'd easily get the independent vote. It's tragic that foreign policy trumps domestic policy in the eyes of most republicans. Reps better hope Romney quits putting his foot in his mouth every time he turns around or it's four more years of Obama.

P.S. Another bit of irony - RP is the only candidate that served in the military.

Ron Paul is 100% behind the 2nd Amendment, but unfortunately he is unelectable.

Are you saying that Santorum should have been tolerant of spousal abuse? Are you saying that he shouldn't have supported Whitman because of her views on a single issue? Rick Santorum received an A+ rating from the NRA. He is a rock solid conservative.

This is nothing but "spin" Don't take anyone's word for it. Vett the folks yourself.
You see what happened, last time we voted uninformed.
Santorum and I don't agree on everything, but who does? The one thing you have to give the guy, is stands for what he believes in and doesn't waver.
You can't say that about 99% of the other politician's out there.

Yeah, let's all vote for Santorum, and sent all the independents running to the Dems. We DO want another four years of Obama, don't we?

I don't care if the Freekin Devil gets the Republican nomination I'm voting for him cause he's got to be 100% better that what we got now...Make your vote count...It's not about who you personally want in the White House it's about picking the one that has a chance to win and move the current squatter out...Like the song says, "You can't always get what you want but if you try sometimes you just might find you get what you need"... Think about it...

Why do you think that all independents will run to the Dems? Many independents support Ron Paul, who is in many ways more conservative than Santorum. And to be an independent doesn't necessarily mean that they are afraid of a Christian. That whole "independents will run to the dems" is spin from the Rep establishment who want to scare voters into voting for their guy IMO.

Sorry but at this point a vote for Ron Paul is as good as a vote for Obama...I really like Ron Paul but he isn't electable and thats just reality...

Agreed. I was simply trying to make the point that a guy like Santorum wouldn't necessarily drive all the independents away.

To me it comes down to the lesser of evils, and who I think has a chance to beat Obama. I can't bring myself to support Romney, I think Newt is probably best qualified for the job, but has a lot of baggage. I like Ron Paul, but I don't think he can be Obama. Santorum has baggage too, but may be the one other than Romney that can defeat Obama. None of the candidates are close to being what I'd like to see, but with politics it's always a compromise.

Well the rumor is that Ron Paul is only still in it to barter his endorsement to Romney in exchange for Rand Paul getting the V.P. slot......

And you and I must do everything possible to make sure that we STOP this Obama scam!

As you already know, the Barack Obama Administration is the most ANTI-GUN US government entity known to man!

Even Secretary of State Hillary Clinton announced that the Obama Administration will be working "hand-in-glove with the United Nations" to pass a new "Small Arms Treaty."

If thats their logic they are pathetic.
It's all about compromise, none are perfect.

Mandatory book to read should be "Patriots" by James Wesley and Rawles.
In this novel it talks about the US defaulting and the Chinese coming to take over using the UN as their enforcers to re-claim on all the debt the US owes them....
This is a "made up" story that is very scary look at the possible future on our current path. Total finanicial collapse and looting etc......

Because the independents will not put up with his social conservatism, not now, not ever. I am a lifelong Methodist and I'm afraid of him and would only vote for him as a last ditch effort to beat Obama. He has already cost the GOP 7% of the independent women's vote and that's fatal if it stands. As always, Republicans will vote Republican and Democrats will vote Democrat, and they are about evenly divided. The Independents always control the national elections. Ron Paul is not, nor will he be a factor.

There is also another reason. I don't like Romney, but at this point he is the only candidate that can win the nomination in the primaries which end in June. Newt or Santorum can only win via a brokered convention. The convention is the end of August. That would only leave a bit over sixty days to mount a campaign against Obama. Impossible!!! Even Reagan couldn't pull that off. In the last fifty+ years there have been four brokered conventions. The winner lost every election.
