Occasionally, racism has been a point of discussion on KT and I, for one, have stated my opinion on the matter when it becomes obvious (to me) in our various politial threads/posts. Today, I visited foxnews.com and stumbled across the following 'news item':

http://radio.foxnews.com/toddstarnes/top-stories/school-says-%e2%80%9cusa-usa%e2%80%9d-chant-is-racist.html

I know racism can be a highly inflamatory topic but my sincere hope is this thread does NOT turn into anything ugly. Otherwise, I call upon the moderator to put an abrupt end to it. I hope you find it easy to make civil and thoughtful comments on the event in Texas which some found to be offensive.

That article pisses me off to no end. Are they not US citizens? US doesn't mean white, it's the melting pot.

As long as people understand racism isn't a one way street.

BET, United Negro College Fund, Casinos in Minnesota, the list goes on and on. Those are accepted because?

"Should not be judged by the color of your skin, but by the content of your character." -MLK

Says it all.

I for one don't don't disrespect people because of the color of their skin, but I don't hand out respect because of it either.

I judge people by their actions, not the color of their skin.

they are ignorant kids. Hopefully they learned something that day and will change their views and feelings. What is more scary is that these kids got this mindset from somewhere. Yep their homes/parents. Unfortunately, it is probably too late for the parents to change.

Was it intended as a racial/Mexican heritage taunt? If so it was wrong.

Was this? [Yes, I know two wrongs don't make a right.]

It has been my over 50 years of living experience that when an individual or group cries about some type of "ism" they need to look in a mirror to see who is the biggest proponent of the "ism" they are complaining about.

I can cite examples but I believe the members of the forum are very able to discern the deep dark, and sexist individuals I am speaking about.

i guess i'm not seeing this as an example of racism. i see harassment and perhaps a form of bullying? i certainly think it was taunting, instigating, provoking, and some other ing's i suppose. i'm really struggling to understand this.
