I've noticed that some Kahr side plates are attached with screws and others use a pin. Is there any logic behind the difference? I've always been under the impression that newer guns had the screwed on side plates, but that's based on only P380 and P45 observations.

Not ignorance, just a good observation. Kahr switched to screws some time ago. :)

The PM40 frame is really messing me up. I have one that should be pretty fresh with a pin and one several years old with a pin. I guess they could have pressed a ton of frames years ago and are still working through the frames with pins.

Surprised to hear that and sorry that you, of all people, should be inconvenienced!

I wonder if you could just use a screw in place of the pin? It might be worth an email service@kahr.com or phone call (508)795-3919 to Kahr service for their insight.

They might even be willing to send you the newer fastener . . . :)

I'm ok with the pin. More curious about it than anything else. Not like I'm planning on removing the side plates anytime soon. :D

The pin is there to keep you from easily removing the side plate :) jk
