I am looking for an over and under shotgun I can use for both skeet and trap. That means it will need choke tubes. Any clay shooters out there? What would you recommend? I used to shoot a Browingin Citori for skeet many years ago. I did pretty well with it but I had to do a bit of fiting to the stoock. Brownings do not naturally fit me. Anyone have any experience with Franchi? I cannot afford high end guns like a Perazzi. :(

As an aside, anybody have, or know of, a 30 inch fixed full choke trap barrel for a rem 870? I am looking for one of those too!

Appreciate any and all thoughts!

I have a friend that bought a Franchi 5-6 years ago. I shot a few clays at the range with it, and it was a well made, nice feeling gun. He spent a few hundred extra to have the chamber opened up and the stock tweaked for him. Said it did improve his scores a bit.

I shoot skeet and trap almost every Saturday. I have a Citori White Lightning, and love it. Here are a couple of suggestions:
1. There are several models of Browning Citoris out there. Try the Lightning, Hunter, and 625/725 series. They have different feels.
2. Look at the Beretta. They cost a bit more, but they are great guns.
3. Both of the above are far superior to the Franchi (in my opinion).

I am a sporting clays shooter now. I used to shoot registered trap. The Browning Citori is a great gun for the money. That is what I use. I always have to have any clays guns modified to fit me also.

A skeet gun shoots too flat to work well at trap. Trap targets are rising, so you need a gun that shoots a little higher, otherwise you have to cover the bird & you can't see it.

I have several 1100 barrels, but no 870's.

Good luck with whatever you get!

I love my CZ Redhead Deluxe, had a custom adjustable comb done and now it's perfect.

At the Sporting Clays club I see lots of Benelli semi-autos. It's one of the most popular guns for sporting clays at that club. SKB is also pretty popular, you see a fair amount of Berettas, Reminton 11-87 and some 1100's, Ruger Red Labels, Brownings, and other o/u and semi's. I use an old Charles Daly made by Mikouri, which is now I believe from the looks of it, a Browning Citori, also made by Mikouri. Been too long since I shot trap that I can't remember what guns people were using, many of us used the same thing we used for sporting clays or skeet with a tighter choke tube if so equipped. I don't remember seeing any Perazzi's, but it wasn't a regular competition, just a Shrine Provost Guard trap shoot, at their yearly regional convention. I did ok (not great, but ok) with a Mossberg 9200 with a full choke. But I like the Charles Daly better for Skeet and sporting clays but it has fixed modified and improved cylinder barrels. We raffle off an SKB most years, and I've been really impressed with the gun's they've supplied us, usually something in the $1200.00 - $1500.00 range, (dealers cost), and had adjustable combs to help fit the gun to the shooter. That would probably be high on my list of guns to check out if I had that kind of money to drop on a shotgun.

Did you see anything at Cabella's that you liked?

By the way, I'll second that for the Benelli auto, but I thought that you were specifically asking about O/Us.

Oops, was ready to pipe in with my endorsement of the 930SPX for social work. I see you are talking about the more gentlemanly kind of social work. ;)

I will check that link out. Thanks!

As it turned out, I never made it to Cabella's last Sunday. I hope to get their today. Probably will be better today because they have the ticket number system at their counter (like the meat counter at your grocery stoere) and hopefully there will be less people in front of me during the week.

Lots of good input! Thanks guys. I will let you know results of my Cabella's trip!

This is on my list, but its hard to justify another 12g right now. Plus, I'm currently addicted to buying pistols!

OP, looking forward to seeing some pictures!:photo:

I shoot registered trap and am around lots of shotguns. In the moderate price range, I think it's hard to beat the Citori's, The Beretta's are a little more $ and also very good. There are getting to be quite a few Ceasar Guerini's also. Beretta and Browning both have an awful reputation for factory service. Most don't ever need it and there are plenty of good , independent gunsmiths if you do. A good, used Perazzi, Krieghoff, or Kolar might be an option also. Still more than a new Browning though.

I feel your pain CJB, I had to wait a year for my AYA. That was crazy long for a 16 year old. I have to say it is the best 265 dollars I have ever saved for and spent. They gave us a huge discount due to the size of the order and half of the gents ordering were repeat customers.

Man, that shotgun is incredible! Pull it out of rain barrel and start blasting away. And no appreciable recoil. I love it when he lets fly with two of them! :86:

Anyone else worry about his eyeballs when he's shooting at the door?
No eye protection whatsoever.
