I noticed that when I carried my cw9 the black magazine baseplate really stood out.

So to remedy that I ordered a metal baseplate from the pm9 and gotta say it is one of the best and most cost effective purchases i've made.

I'd like to do the same for my CW45, but the PM45 baseplate is the same bulky plastic job.

Dunno why Kahr does that.

Even the PM40 has the flat metal baseplate.

Weird.

As an alternative, I've been very pleased with modified Officer's/Compact 1911 magazines in my CW45.

Is that the same as the Colt Defender 6 round .45, and did you have to modify it?

Yes, that's the same size. I've modified the mags I use as per this thread:

kahrbw9 nice work. I've been trying to figure out options for the mag plates too since I just got my CW9. And after joining KahrTalk, I can see now that there is a long history concerning this. To me, the metal plate looks better than the plastic. Then others think the plastic looks better than the stainless. I decided I want to machine my own base plate out of aluminum (since I have access to a CNC), and make the plate match the frame better. I'll post some photos when/if I have something to be proud of.
There is a little discussion about base plates here... http://kahrtalk.com/showthread.php?t=11927

P.S. Greg, I gotta say... those are sweet photos! Very nice quality.

I think that the three of us should get together and form the ILMMBP organization. I love my metal base plate, too.

Do you find your pinky finger doesn't have as much room on the gun?

Did it affect your grip vs the plastic?

I've sanded the plastic lip off my mags and it feels great in my hand but I think the metal looks better and would snag less on your shirt.

I've been thinking about getting some.

I've got small hands, so my pinky finger fits all the way on the grip without touching the plastic mag base.

I have very large hands however I do have the hogue grip which helps the upward recoil. It's a little different without the plastic but nothing you cant adjust to.The metal base plate has a lot less print than the plastic one. That was my main intention of doing this. But whatever floats your boat.

Yeah It looks like it would print less. I'll just have to try it and see if it works for me.

After finding this thread, I ordered a PM9 base plate #038PM9. What arrived today is a black plastic slightly extended plate? The invoice says 038PM9 mag plate. Did I order the wrong number or did they ship the wrong one? Thanks everyone...

I am pretty sure they sent the wrong one... If what you actually ordered was this one...

Have you guys ever gotten your pinky pinched with those metal base plates?? I put them on my P40 and I got pinched the first time I shot, so I added O-rings. The 1/8" thick ones were TOO thick... too much pressure on the magazine... pulling it outward, so I tried the 3/32" thick by 3/4" I.D. and that seems to work. The first ones were too thick and too loose... 15/16" I.D.

Just got off the phone their customer service ( lady was not very friendly by the way)........actaully she was quite rude!! Anyway........asked if I had also ordered the metal base plate lock. I had'nt so she told me I had to go back on line and order it also for the metal base plate to work. I asked if I could order from her and she could ship it with the correct base plate and she said no! Guess that is their way of charging those rediculously high shpg charges again!! Not too happy about that.
Just a note for anyone ordering the metal base plate...........be sure and get the lock plate also!!!!

You can order the metal lock, but you don't need it to work.I had a few extra plastic ones and tried different things. On one I sanded it down until it was level with the base plate and on the other one I put a washer in between the plastic lock and the base plate.

Women on the phone usually are rude to me as well it's their ego.

Well...........here we go again!!! I went back online and ordered the "metal" lock plate for the mag and you guessed it!!!!!!! They sent me another plastic one!! The packing slip says "037PM9" (which is what I ordered) and they sent me a "044PM9". Needless to say I will NOT be ordering anything directly from Kahr again unless I 100% absolutly have to!!!!

how long did it take you to get the mags? Hell I ordered a pin, spring, and SS rod for my cw40 2 weeks ago and the tracking number still says awaiting pick up. I've sent 5 emails with no response and I called but after sitting on hold forever I finally hung up.

Also, any similar remedy for the CW 40?????

What a bummer. They must have the wrong parts in the bin they are pulling inventory from without realizing it!

I dont know whats going? Two orders made and two orders wrong! Not very good odds, and then a rude customer service rep on top of that!
Love their guns but not impressed with the way they take care of their customers!!!!!

Tilos what kind of baseplate did you use there?

I believe he used a k920g and cut off the ugly baseplate.

LorenzoB

Tilos what kind of baseplate did you use there?

He basically started with the taller plastic base used on the extended magazines, then cut it down.
http://www.kahr.com/Pistol-Parts/Kahr-045PM9-Magazine-Base-7-round.asp

It is really a great idea for a minimal bottom plate without having to do a lot of shaping and sanding. The front of those also match the front curvature of the grip better than the standard base. If you are careful not to cut too much, you wouldn't have the pinky pinch potential of the metal base plate.

I got delayed by a long business trip, but I hope to have something to show you all soon on my custom machined base plate.

LorenzoB:

Thanks...
That would be it:D and it actually came on the extra mag that came with the gun.
So I had to buy...nothing:wof:

I started by cutting it too big and then filed it down to just snap into the mag release.

Sorry I didn't post before, I never saw the questions.
Once you go gapless, you'll never go back:rolleyes:.
