Hello all, I went to the shop today to make a payment on my CW9 and the gent behind the counter gave me some food for thought. He showed me some police trade in K9s. Some had evident wear and some looked really good. They are the same price I am paying for my CW9 new. Just thought I would ask for some input from you guys as they would let opt for one of police trades instead of the CW9. Of course the trades being used would not have the warranty or at least I think that would be the case. Thank you for your input.

Sorry just to let you know, I don't have a concealed carry permit yet, but I plan on getting it soon. This is why I liked the CW9 in the first place, plus I could tell it was a quality firearm from inspecting it.

One round trip, at your expense, is about $120. Get the dealer to give you 6 months with any used gun.

Kahr warranty is only five years to the original owner. Even then, the language indicates there may be a service and shipping charge at their discretion.

Thanks Triggerman, That is one of the reasons I have yet to do a swap and decided to come home and think about it.

I think I'd opt for one of the nice K9's myself. Its a little heavier than the CW but a really great gun. Down the road you can get a PM or a CM for a backup and you'll be covered. Not sure what kind of money your talking but sounds like the trade in K9's are a good value.

I really doubt you'll have any issues.

Hi PYRO, how is the CM9 at he range? IE recoil and comfort as I plan to shoot a bunch of paper and get out as much as work will allow. Not that I am recoil sensitive I just would like it be enjoyable. They do have a CM at the shop, when I put the CW on layaway my thought was it looked like a nice blend of carry plus range gun.

Hi Bawanna, they are both 429, The reason It has me thinking is I am fan of steel frame, old school I guess. I am not a small guy 6foot1 205lbs and I have packed everything from revolvers to the M60 in the military. The M60 would be a little tough to conceal take a heck of a holster. :)

For that money I'd be all over the steel especially if you get to hand pick a pretty one. The weight isn't hard to deal with especially your size. You can do a tupperware later. They are darn nice, make no mistake about that but the steel is sweet and alot more money new.

for 429 i would get the k9, you can get a new cw9 from buds for about 350, the all metal gun will be good to conceal but will be better for shooting a lot at the range. just get one of the k9s that dont have much wear on them.

When I got my cm, I was a little worried it wouldn't be enjoyable at the range, but after the first trip n over 150 rnds in one session I soon realized it was just as much fun at the range as my sig p6. The recoil is a little snappy but very managable. So far I've made 4 trips with it n put at least 100 rnds through it each time with no complaints.
I got mine for less than 400 after ordering n paying transfer fee btw.

I'd pick up a K9... like the other K9 it could become your best friend. I have 31firearms now, 21 of them handguns and my K40 is my regular carry piece.

Thanks for the info gents, I'll be heading to the shop now to take a close look at the K9s to see if I like any of them well enough to give up the warranty.

Well just got back and made the change to the K9. The one I picked out has wear on the rubber grips, but the rest looks new no holster wear that I could see or any bad looking areas on the metal. It also has trijicon sights installed on it.

Did you take it down to see if it was gunked up, or had been cleaned and well cared for?

They must be pretty good guns. A few weeks ago I accidently caught an episode Of "Blue Bloods". I had never seen the show before, but the lead detective [Sellick's son] shot a BG with one and he flew across the room, crashed through a window, and landed on the hood of a police car three stories down.

Probably using those +P loads no doubt. Maybe even those evil black talons. Plumb ruin your day in a heart beat those do.

Yea I saw that episode last week...he was shooting a Kahr K9. He must have shot that pumk at least half dozen times from 5-6 feet away. Can anybody say "Bombs Away" or how about "Happy Landings"
That Blue Bloods is really a good show.

I haven't warmed up to it yet. I kind of keep Selleck in my head as Jesse Stone or a cowboy. He'll always be Quigley or Monte Walsh to me. Hope he makes a ton more cowboy movies while he has the time.

I really like the steel Kahrs.
Particularly Stainless Steel.

I personally would rather have a pristine used K9.

Tom Selleck will always be Magnum, P.I., to me. Carrying that 1911 SOB without a holster and driving a Ferarri, with looks that would melt any woman. Cool!

I don't generally like to brag but he got those looks from me. Especially the mustache. That's the melter right there. Just ask Melissa. She's a certified expert on such things along with TD2K and Jlottmc. Ask any of them, they'll tell ya.

I seriously thought about becoming a giggilo before I got into Law Enforcement. Not sure I made the right choice to this day.

I don't think JLottMC is in love with your mustache! :p

I've gotten compliments on my mustache, which predates my beard by a decade or more. It is nice and neat, well trimmed. But if not maintained, they can get kinda outa control....

Sorry for the delay, on 3rd shift this month. I have placed my own delay on it as it's still in layaway, I should have it out in a week or two. Yes I did J. They had six of them I checked out three The one I picked was the only one that was cleaned and had a lite coat of oil on it. They also told me when I get it out of layaway that I could shoot it on the their range at no charge to make sure all is well with it. You know you pay a little more at your local, but it is cool that they will do things like a range pass to make sure a used firearm is functioning properly.

Hey folks just another quick question. Are all the Kahr slide releases stiff on their guns? I handled two new CW9s and this used K9 and all of the releases were stiffer than I was when I was 18 every morning. I don't see it as an issue just didn't expect it the first time I released the slide on one. Plus the thought crossed my mind that the the K9 I picked my not have been fired a billion times.

Make sure you drop the mag before you try the slide release. Just the way Kahrs are:)....Just way to go with the K9, it is one fine handgun.

O'Dell
03-16-2012, 11:41 PM
Yep, they are designed to be hard to release on an empty mag. We wouldn't want to walk around with an empty gun, would we?

I concur about the all metal Kahrs. I have owned six polymer Kahrs and like them all, but even with the extra weight, my new MK40 is my favorite. I just wish they would make an MK45 for my favorite round.

I think you did well by picking the K9, especially with the night sights and range time included. I really like my CW9 that I'm currently packing, but I think I'll go dig the K40 out of the safe.

chipD

That was my thought sharpetop. I figured that if there was a problem with the gun it would show itself at the range and could be taken care of. The way I see it if the gun functions properly when I pick it up it should be good to go.
