I just put a NYPD K9 in layaway. $516 total. Man I hope this lives up to the rep this gun has. I really have to stay off the internet- this is getting expensive!

Now where do I get some cool wood grips?

Looks really good. What's the serial prefix on that GA or GC or am I thinking of the MK series.
There's been some frame changes so it's hard to tell. I have an early K40 that I've made grips for, sometimes they fit, sometimes they don't when I've sent them to people.
The Kahrshop sells wood grips, can't say for certain they have them to fit but they would know.

That's probably from around 1998... or a bit later. I got my K9 SS with NS new in March '98... ser# AR11xx.
The soft rubber grips are the best-feeling grips ever. I don't know why you would change them without trying the pistol first. That's the most perfect-fitting pistol I ever held.

I just took a new CW9 out of layaway and put one of the police trade K9s in layaway in it's place. I have read that the triggers are not the same, but when I pulled the trigger on the K9 that I chose it was just as smooth and clean breaking as the new CW9 was IMO. At any rate I am going to shoot it as is I will adjust after all my other handguns are SA or DA/SA so I would have to get use to the CW or the K anyway.
Yours looks like mine from the pic some wear on the grips, but good on everything else. By the way the one I put on layaway does not have a black slide release like yours, I wonder if that it is an indication of the years they were produced?

I've never seen a black slide release on a stainless gun. Not sure if they finished that or swapped off a DLC model. Where's Jocko when we need him?

Some girls look better in jeans and a teeshirt. Some look better a little dressed up. Guess it's just what you're into. I have a feeling it'll shoot great either way!
Someone else put that black slide release on the gun. I am pretty sure they were not made that way. If you look at Kahr's catalogue, they come in either all black or all silver. You will really like the K9. I am told it is a very solid shooting trouble free pistol.
Good luck and keep us posted on how it goes!

Well, you can probably get the cost of your wood grips back by selling those rubber grips. There are a lot of guys who would pay a good price for them.

Maybe use the soft grips on range days and the wood grips for carry?

You'll do that about the first 2 or 3 times (been there myself) and then it will go to the range in it's every day dress. Wood grips can be very comfortable and look mighty stylish too. I'd not part with the rubber grips for any price but put them in the box and save them for posterity, or wear em every day and abandon the wood idea.
It's nice to practice the way you carry so everything stays the same too.

That's it... Except mine's a different one. The girl at the gunshop said she'd pick the nicest one and put it in layaway for me. Hopefully that's what she did.... According to her, mine will be in better shape than the one in the pic.

That's great! You must be pretty excited. Hope you can put up some pics when you get it. And a range report, of course....
The more pics of K9's I look at, the more I can't wait to get mine. Let's see, what can I sell?!!!
