So I got a little CRC on the stock rear sight of my K9 Elite. A I was using a can of compressed air to dry things off, I observed with sadness my painted rear bar sight fly off onto my garage floor. Anyone else have my wonderful luck.

Guess I'll be looking at night sights now. I like the XS Big Dots sights...but I wish the rear bar was a lamp and not just PAINTED!

Happened to me too. You can repaint the sight with sight paint(many different colors available) or you can use "white out" for typing corrections or just model paint from a hobby store. White Out works pretty well in a pinch.

I lost the paint one time but not the sight. I did the repaint thing too.

Sight paint? What colors?

My XS sights do not have a painted bar. They glow in the dark just like the front dot. Maybe they have some that are painted, I don't know for sure but all mine are tritium.

Several years ago, I bought the complete set of Bright Sights paint (including the "Ghost Glow") and never could make it stay on the front sight of my carry gun. For a range gun it seems to work "o.k.", but a gun carried all day, every day, it just don't stick. That's fine if you just need to acquire the front sight at the range, but when you draw from a holster and find that the paint chip is just wandering around at the muzzle end of the holster you're back to the factory delivered condition.

Just got finished checking the XS Sights catalog. The XS sights for the P380 only come with a painted stripe on the rear sight. All other Kahr models come with a Tritium stripe on the rear sight.

Does this mean that one should not use brake cleaner on the slide and only use brake cleaner on brakes?

I know it's more expensive, but I only use Shooters Choice Polymer Safe spray solvent on my guns. I leave the brake cleaner for my car's brakes.
IMO, my guns are worth the extra cost. I've never had paint or any other finish problems with the polymer safe solvent.

Oh great thx for the info.

So for the K9 the rear vertical bar is indeed a tritium lamp?!? Great news. This is a no brainier then.

***Non-Chlorinated brake cleaner wont hurt your steel or polymer...thats what its for. Brake dust and gun powder arent really all that different when in clean up mode.

How are the sights on those set in the first place? Are they maybe secured with some kind of glue? The solvent would possibly work like a thinner and break down the adhesive. That mixed with the high pressure coming out of the nozzle and things could start to go awry. I use clear fingernail polish to set my mounting hardware on scopes and sometimes it seems like that same thing will happen.

Just a thought. If youre worried about it and have the cash, then why not just go for the good stuff?

I don't really worry about that white bar on the rear sight; just get a proper sight picture, focus on the front sight, and squeeze the trigger. The white bar is somehow still visible on my PM9 but not on my CW9.

I read on a gun spray cleaner at wal mart on a can called GUN BLAST. to no spray on painted surfaces. so most all cleaners (if they really clean) might be harmful to painted surfaces. I ruin a ncie set of Herretts grips on my J frame due to getting some Hoppe's #9 on them---carelessly. thanks to Bawanna he made them more than perfect. I callit my cancer gun, as the grips are now PINK.

FWIW, the white KKote (gunKote) sticks like magic... easy to apply, you bake it on and it will not fly off, nor will chemicals melt it off... just sayin
