Not sure if this should have gone in other firearms or ammo or here. Mod - move it if you need to.

Quite a long thread here: http://www.hkpro.com/forum/hk-handgun-talk/154739-usp-tactical-exploded.html

Pics on post #11.

Video of the event on post #51.

And the eventual/likely culprit revealed on post #72.

I suppose one take away is be careful of where your ammo comes from (this one is really a series of mis-events) and, oh yes, shoot with protection.

HK USPs are very tough, but a double charge will likely do any gun in. The USP's daddy, the remarkable MK23 may have survived, as it was designed for very high pressure ammo that was never actually used. The lesson learned... know your ammo.

Shopping for gloves, anyone?

Even factory ammo can sometimes double up. It is extraordinarily rare. That is why I NEVER use reloads.

I'd use my own reloads....

>>I showed him the video yesterday and he said based on the amount of smoke that he didn't think it was factory ammo.<<

That's what I saw the second time I saw it. The amount of smoke was a lot more than prior rounds and I was troubled about factory ammo with heavy loads. I feel better knowing it's reload as it can happen.

Dang, when I think of somebody double charging a reload that picture of the hairy tacticool neked guy popped in my mind. No Christmas card for whoever posted that!
