Do you know how many people could care less if they sacrifice their own children to take out 100's of 'the enemy'? There are cultures that use women and children as body armor, fact.

Not saying this is right, don't get me wrong - but if they're going to do this kind of thing you can't let a 3 year old in a 'body cast' slide on through just because they're a 3 year old in a body cast.

TSA's process and procedures are not uniformly followed and rules are not uniformly enforced. The "security" is a smokescreen.

Privatize the security screening to provide better security services at a lower cost.

I hope you are kidding there. Yes, there are 'cultures' that don't care about children enough not to do this. But this was NOT one of those cultures going thru TSA security. It was OUR culture. American family, all of them in one group. Tossing common sense out the window in favor of PC treating everyone the same is a bunch of garbage. You either look at all the information available (which any trained investigator or law enforcement officer would do) or you follow a scripted procedure and do stupid stuff. The TSA is the latter.

Am I advocating profiling. You betcha!

I don't disagree, but I don't agree either.

'American' means what? Melting pot, right? All walks of life, all religions, all nationalities. Or what is it you consider American culture? Can you identify a terrorist with 100% accuracy based on looks? Being white with blonde hair doesn't exclude you.

Disclaimer:
I'm fighting off a nasty head cold and on meds, so I'm a little argumentative lately. :o

I'm a big advocate of profiling. It it looks like a dirt bag, smells like a dirt bag, it's a dirt bag.

Next?

What really wads my panties is letting the dirt bags thru to show your not profiling or for fear of upsetting them.

I'm a big advocate of that too. Upsetting dirt bags.

We probably don't disagree that much. No, using hair color or nationality would NOT be all the information that I refered to in my post. A law enforcement officer (well trained) would be able to eval the big picture, using gender, appearance, nationality, behavior, prior experience, etc. And no, I'm not law enforcement or ex law enforcement, just an educated guess that they are better trained than a TSA agent.

If you were in an end-of or post-WWII era screening people trying to get out of Germany and you were looking for ***** higher ups who were trying to keep it on the down-low, would you cart people off with Jewish last names. (yea, i realize that would have been a great cover for a **** at the time, but that's beside the point). If you were tracking down a white supremacist here in the states for blowing something up, would you check out any of the black folks rolling thru rest stops. Not likely in either case. In both cases, some people fit the profile, some do not.

There are always fringe cases like shoe guy Richard Reid. But then again, he had changed his appearance and actually DID match the profile of an islamic extremist terrorist.

Ultimately, TSA agents have zero training and/or experience to be doing this stuff.

But in the end, there is no way, no how, this particular instance warranted anything beyond 'have a night vacation' from the TSA agent. It's just utterly stupid.

There is not a good answer to this problem. Bad things have happened. Bad things will continue to happen. You cannot stop them all. Conducting these checks that are currently perceived as effective 'screening procedures' are nothing short of a pointless. They just hold everybody up and sweeps our freedoms under the rug. There are too many stories of people getting past security with actual firearms and ammunition to think that anything the TSA is doing is effective. On the off chance they actually find something, all they've REALLY done is stopped someone from trimming their nails 'in flight' or not being able to whittle a piece of wood when they get to their destination.

We've flushed common sense and actual investigative methods down the toilet in the name of PC.

I'm pretty much always argumentative. Joining this forum hasn't helped either :D But at least here, most are like minded, so I don't have to worry too much about running into folks that are totally off their rocker.

What passes for airport security in this country is a joke.

Good, bad, or indifferent...the Israelis seem to do a darn good job of profiling.

If either of you two consider yourselves off your rocker, we are in trouble as a country more than I thought.

PLUS, have to apologize, already spun up from doing my taxes this weekend. That didn't help my disposition one little bit.

Apologize? Sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeit...

Taxes? Makes me sick to my stomach every year seeing what I pay in and having to fight for every penny they can't keep.

I'll admit, sometimes I'll throw in a response that is outside the norm just for discussion purposes, you can quote me on that and use it against me another day if you'd like, it's true. I mean, what good is a discussion if everyone says essentially the same thing? It's fun to make people think about their answers instead of repeating what everyone else says. :)

Me too. Profile based upon any criteria you want, race, sex, length of hair, whatever. But use common sense and target your efforts primarily to the threat we know about.

That's where we're severely lacking. Common sense. Since many people don't have any I think they have the computer randomly select folks for more complete searches. How the computer happens to know when hot chicks happen to be coming through remains a mystery to me.

I'm all for shutting down planes anyhow, to fast and they fly way too high. Take amtrak instead, see the world as you go.

I'm in complete agreement also.

We spend way too much time trying to be "correct" in this country.

But hey, what would one expect when the POS in the WH bows to every AH in the world try to make friends.

TSA airport screening is just about money and bureaucracy. All we need is bomb-sniffing dogs, but that's not profitable. On a tin foil hat level, it's also about desensitizing Americans to the loss of basic freedoms.
