View Full Version : cm 9/40 pre-purchase checklist
I can’t believe it but…
I plan on buying a cm 9 or cm 40! After all the grief I had with my p380 I can’t stop lusting after one of these after reaching its reliability. I really like Kahrs when they work. I prefer the 40S&W over the 9mm but fear it may be real bear recoil wise. If you’ve shot both I’d like to hear what you think about the recoil.
I’d like to compile a check list of the problematic issues some of you have had, so I can inspect the gun before buying and save myself the grief of shipping the gun back to kahr. I already know I’m going to,
Break the gun down and make sure the barrel doesn’t stick in the slide.
Lock the slide open; insert a magazine with dummy rounds to make sure the round doesn’t touch the slide lock pin.
Anything else you’d like to add?

how about just cleaning it and lubing it and shooting it like u stole it. Most don't need a thing done to them.
the kahr prepping thread is a guide, no more no less, if ur having any issues to start with. Many take um out of the box and do nothing and they work fine. The cm9 ahr is a very reliable and great gun, fear not in buying it. The cm40 to my knowledger is not shipping yet or in any of our forum members hands yet. I really think ur putti9ng alot more emphasis on issues that are just not really there. U gonna read of issues here first but certtainly is not indicative of most kahrs and the cm9 is just a great gun. I wolod prefer the 9 over tyhe 40 if for ay reason, it just has to be more pleasant to shoot. I don't put the P380 in the same league of any of the kahr models either. It has had teething pains more IMO tyhan any kahr made but it is getting alot better to. U just can't group one bad apple into one, ymmv.

If the recoil of one of these 10 ounce .380's isn't a problem for you, A CM/PM 40 is only slightly snappier. I am comparing my LCP with the 13# Wolff recoil spring set shooting gold dots to the PM 40 shooting 180 grain Winchester SXT's. Unmodified Ruger or lighter bullets in the Kahr would make them even closer.

KC I think you have the right idea of doing a pre-purchase inspection of the gun you want. Maybe they will have more than one and you can choose the one that passes your examination the best. As stated on this forum “no two are exactly the same”. As you stated with your bad experience with your p380 isn't going to discourage you against a different Kahr. I am completely satisfied with my 2 kahrs. They are all steel so they don't get a lot of discussion on the forum because the real popular ones are poly. As yet I don't have any poly guns but when I do get one it will be a DLC PM9. Looking forward to your range report.

The gun store where I shop at is one of the busiest in Pittsburgh area and always has full stock to meet the demand placed on them. I'm not going to be shy, I plan on telling the salesman to let me check out as many as I need to till I'm satisfied that any obvious issue isn't present. After I find one thats right he then can start writing serial #'s on the forms :D.
