I hope this hasn't been covered before, searched but didn't find anything.

I was dry firing my new-to-me CW45 yesterday and noticed that no matter how hard i tried the front sight dropped when the trigger broke. practice practice practice (this is the first DAO pistol I've owned in years). Then I looked at the gun from the side while dry firing and realized that when the slide is racked, the from of the slide shows a notable gap between the slide and the frame (I'd estimate .040-.050"), when the trigger breaks, the slide fall back down onto the frame. Is this normal? If not I guess I will be contacting Kahr next.

I can post pics if it helps.

normal, IMO

If u look at the two long rails in the dust cover of ur cw u will notice they are thin rails (guides) and the two grove cutsin the front of ur slie are squared channels.. There willbe some play i that area. Unlikle ur back rails onur cw which are squared to fit much tighterin the squared channels of ur slide. IMO nothing is wrong, and I thijnk kahr will tell 8u the same thing.

ok, I was concerned because this was a used gun, and while my 1911's have some play in the slide/rail fitment, I haven't seen that much movement before. If it's normal then so be it. FWIW it shot pretty accurately when I took it out, just a little low, which is why i was trying to practice with the trigger, which is what started me looking at the slide movement.

understandable. as u know ur 1911 is built totally different and the slide normally will fit differently with less play than the polymer designed kahrs. Kahrs are accurate, if there is any inaccuracy, normally it is the result of the looooong but so so smooth trigger system. I don't shootmy PM9 near as good as I do my G19 but I shootit good enough to call it my 24/7 carry peace. Used really has nothing to do with kahrs. rounds down range with good maintenance care willnot reslt in alot of wear. My PM9 after 32K+ rounds still feels tight, certainly not a rattler by any means..

Ur OK, if u don't ask questions on this fourm ur missing out on good information. We have some really brite guys here who will address ur questions with courtesty to. We are not a group to call any question as a dumb question..Ur ok just shoot it like u stoleit.

Thanks,

I did have a few troubles with my first time out, most of which I found answers to on here already.

Had a couple of light strike, combination of Remington UMC ammo's hard primers, and the firing pin channel having never been cleaned (i would guess judging by the amount of crud/primer shavings? that came out of it).

Also tried some of my officers mags, which worked but won't lock the slide, and one of them would partially eject on the last round every time. I have trimmed them to match the factory mag, so we'll see if that helps on the next outing. Still need to order/modify some mag followers to get the slide lock working.

I was also worried about the drag mark on the primers until I found the explanation here (again, coming from the 1911 world I hadn't seen that before).

All in all, I'm loving this Kahr, the trigger pull will take some getting used to, but coming from single actions, the first time I dry fired the Kahr I got had the biggest grin. I normally HATE DAO trigger pulls (thank god my local store is ok with dry firing their guns). I was actually there looking to finger/buy a taurus pt745/pt145, but they had neither in stock.

+1 on it being normal and another for the accuracy part.
Here's my CW45 for comparison (similar gaps before and after firing plus it shoots quite accurately:)):

keep an eye on the light strikes though. If u cleaned that striker channel that should do the trick, but light strikes are not good . Be aware u need to let up on the trigge rto let it resetor u willget light strikes and then that is just shooter error and getting used to the gun. I am assuming u have read the two good sticky's on the kahr tech section:

#1 kahr lube charjt

#$2 propper prepping of ur kahr

GB 6491 photos kinda confirmed what we all knew but when GB talks my friend, this forum listens.

After proper prep and lube per the tech section stickies (did a full detail strip and clean first) put another 50rds (all I had left) through her today. Not a single hiccup, accuracy was better, but I think that was mostly me getting more accustomed to the trigger and not being distracted by the other issues. I'm loving this Kahr thing :)

great, sometimes one until he gets used to his kahr "short strokes" it and that will cause light strikes. sounds like ur ready to go. nice report.
