OK I have a question. I have recently been spending a lot of time at the range after a many year break in shooting. So I am a little older. Now the problem: I wear glasses to see far away. If I leave my glasses on when shooting I can see the targets but the sights are a complete blur. If I take off my glasses, the sights are in focus but the target is blurred. What if anything do you all do to fix this.
Well my freind welcome to middle age. I just have my glass prescription with no line bifocals, then all you have to do is find the sweet spot keeping only the front sight and target is some what kinda focused. It is impossible for the human eye to focus up close and on the target at the same time so one of them will be slightly out of focus. Just line up your gun sites, then forget about the rear site and concentrat on the frint site and the target will be just slightly blurred. That will be the correct site picture. This is why the militay went to rear peep sights after WWI through to the Vietnam War. Pick up the front site in the peep and then focus on the front site & target...your brain will automatically try and keep the rear site centerd without even thinking about it. Just get some progressive (wide angle) no line bifocals then let her rip.

I just use a pair of shooting glasses which lets me see the front sight fine, and the target is blurry, which I guess is the way it should be. One gentlemen took a magic marker and blacked out all but a little peep hole on his shooting side of the glasses to keep things from getting so blurry. I've seen other devices hanging from shooters glasses that are like washers with small holes in them that they swing down and look through when they shoot.

no line bifocals I have beenwearing for many years. I do fair with them. Not gonna buy any special glasses just for shootin, . I have fun shootin, if I hit wht I aim at, thatis OK to. Certainly at 7 yards and under I see well enough. I just do't worry to much about 25 yardes sots with my handguns.
age???takesit toll.

No one can focus at three different distances at the same time. You should focus on the front sight and the target and rear sight should be a soft blur. Works for me and millions of others.

When I'm shooting at paper targets at the range, I line up the sights and fire, then I try to maintain that hold and point using the gun lineup and putting it on the target. I wind up point shooting after that. You won't have time to line up the front and rear sights on a particular place on the target in an SD situation... especially if you're trying to shoot and not get shot... moving and ducking behind cover, etc.
Then there's not jerking the trigger any number of ways!
I just wear shooting glasses... non-prescription... for eye-protection when shooting. I use glasses for reading and have progressive lenses, but don't like them for shooting.

I'm 55 and never ever wear glasses.
Daily contacts for me.
My ophthalmologist prescribes contacts where one is focused
more for close and the other for far.
Works perfect for me.
Eventually, when I need cataract surgery,
I'll have my lenses replaced and see like a school kid again.
Shinny and new - LOL!
My best tip is switch to XS Systems Big Dot Sights.
Much easier to see and super fast sight acquisition.

I'm just like you. My distance vision is perfect, but I have to wear readers to shoot so the front sight is in focus. Now I just wear a pair around my neck so they're always there. Either that or bifocals. I don't care for shooting with bifocals because you have to tilt your head back to see through the reading portion in order to focus on the front sight.

I put a pair of reading glasses under my safety glasses and tip my head up and down to get a clear view one way or the other. I really can't shoot further then about 45 feet since I focus on the front site right before pulling the trigger with the target left a blur.

the front sight should be clear and the target blurry

I can see stuff 18" or better away but I can't focus on the sights and the target will all in focus. That's why I aim, get the pistol lined up, then point at the target with that lineup and adjust as needed from bullet impacts. In a hurry, I don't do the aiming part.

Wish XS would get their R&D done for the CM9. I want a set.
Looking for a set for my K9. Having a hell of a time seeing the front sight.

I wish that Trijicon would make the Hard Duty Night Sights available for Kahrs! I love those on my XD45. There's a BIG Dot... after a quick few seconds exposure to a strong light.
Dang! Got to go clean off my work..., er, dining table for supper... AND FIX IT!

Just FYI as an option.... there is a shooter's eyeglass dot that sticks to you regular glasses but static that you can put wherever you need for the range and remove when through. Seems I saw them a while back and they were $10 for a few.
