So now that I've been carrying my P9 for six months or so I thought I'd do a quick comparison of these two popular holsters.

I started with the MTAC a couple years ago for a different pistol and it was my first experience with a comfortably iwb holster. What really makes it stand out is how it rides. Because the belt hooks connect to the holster so low, almost at the bottom, there's very little pressure against the body. It's pulling directly down from the belt instead of in toward the body. It's also more padded which makes it the overall more comfortable choice. Adjustable retention really helps as the leather wears.

When I ordered my P9 I also ordered a crossbreed supertuck deluxe horsehide for it. I have to admit I was pretty disappointed for the first few weeks. It was very uncomfortable. The leather backing was really hard compared to the MTAC. It wasn't until the last day of the trial period that it finally started to break in. Actually, it still feels like its breaking in 5 months later. it carries about 1/4" closer to the body than the MTAC which makes a noticeable difference when wearing just a tshirt. It also prints less in the pants since it doesn't have full slide coverage.

If I had to live with one it would be the MTAC but now that warmer weather is here I will be wearing the crossbreed more.

I have a Supertuck in cowhide for my G19 with CT laserguard. It only took a couple weeks of wearing it everyday to break it in. Now it's super soft and still keeps the gun tucked in close.

I should have said in the first four weeks I only wore it about half the time, so that is probably about the same.

I have a M-Tac for my M&P 9c and love it. I agree with everything said in the OP. I also have a DeSAntis Intruder(same as King Tuck) for my G23. I had the same issue with the Intruder as the Kingtuck. Mine was also hard on the back side and much wider overall compared to the M-Tac. I haven't really wore it enough to break in good. If it doesn't improve soon it will be replaced with a CTAC. One other design difference that i think really affects the comfort is the way the Kydex portion attaches to the leather. The Kingtuck and Intruder has a wide mounting lip that does not give. The M-Tac has a much smaller mounting point. The MTac also does not have any more leather than what is needed which also makes them more comfortable,IMO.

I have an MTAC Spartan for my CW9 and absolutely love it! I had a cowhide MiniTuck first and didn't like the retention so I made the switch to the MTAC Spartan. The Spartan doesn't have the double leather backing so it's thinner and with the rough side towards your body it feels very secure. Another huge benefit of the MTAC is the modular kydex bodies for different guns. I'm planning on getting a PM45 soon and I won't have to buy a whole new holster for that gun, just a new kydex body. HUGE props to Comp-Tac for their product, I absolutely love it!!

Yep, this is a big plus. I have the white hat IWB holster with one scabbard for my cm9 and one for my glock 19. Very convenient. The white hat seems a bit overkill for the cm9. Probably just leave the G19 scabbard on that one. Got a silent thunder for the cm9, and that is very comfy and very easy on/off. Fits like a glove. The leather lining is very nice to my little girl.

I make a similar holster and have had a lot of success with them. I cut the horse hide from a strip which has different thicknesses. I generally use the thinner horse hide for smaller guns like the Kahr and thicker hide for Glocks, 1911s etc. By cutting the backings by hand I can custom tailor them to suit a person's needs. I also offer metal clips in two sizes and kydex j-hooks and velcro hooks that I make in the shop.

If a holster isn't comfortable it might not be worn. My rigs are really comfortable from the start. I do gun shows on occasion and have found that if I can get someone to try the rig on it will generally sell itself.

Here's a pic of my recent work:
