Has anyone done this? There are so many different kinds of coatings out there. Examples are the duracoat, cerakote, ionbond, melonite, and tenifer. What is the best and what is going to not show any scratches or fingerprinting smudges. And which one will not chip no matter what?
This is what I got from Kahr...they don't tell us what it is???
Blackened Stainless
http://kahr.shopvisible.com/itemImages/icon_dlc.gifThe PM9094 matte stainless slide is blackened using an ultra hard and super thin coating. This coating has been used successfully in the knife industry to protect blades from corrosion and scratches.

Yeah, I believe Mr. CJB refinished one of his Kahr slides in black. There is a thread here somewhere.
And, while you are searching, you will probably find some folks who sent theirs off to one of the several professional refinish guys, with good results.
Me, I just bought a Kahr DLC finished gun (your sample) as the backup to my primary, stainless pocket pistol. Simplicity, ya' know . . . http://home.mindspring.com/%7Ejustsomeguy/icon_lol.gif

Very nice! Strange I am not getting more posts to my thread though. I would hate to get it done and than it chip or flake off. How easily does the finish mar up? I wish more people would give me more answers as to what kind of coat to get...
Hey Tucson...what is the name of that slip on grip you have in these pics?

It is called a Qwik Grip and is size 3a (http://www.qwikgrip.com/page2.htm), according to the maker's page at that link. I bought mine on eBay (search for Qwik Grip) where you will probably find it listed as just plain "size 3" for one of the smaller Glocks. I see that Midway USA carries them as a "Lone Wolf" brand size 3 (http://www.midwayusa.com/Product/364748/lone-wolf-qwik-grip-3-with-finger-grooves-glock-26-36-polymer-black) as well.
The black PM40 is wearing a cut down size 2, originally for my longer gripped (and now traded away) CW40. Size 2 also works for P series Kahrs with their longer grips accommodating one more round than the PM series.

I have the Qwik-Grip for my CM9 and really like it. No palm swell or finger grooves, but just a good tactile grip that makes handling the gun sure. Also cushions against recoil. And I like the way it fits, because some other brands are too short and the bottom doesn't line up evenly with the bottom of the grip frame like these do.

I have a qwik-grip for my cm9 and cw9 but am currently trying out the Talon Rubberized grips on the two guns. I do like the qwik grips though.
