newbie reloader observations

i have been handloading for about 5 months now, 9mm for a CZ85 combat and .32 sw long for an old hr wheelgun.

well last week i picked up a CW9 and tried my loads in it for the break in.

it was cool to see the difference in my tuned CZ load thru the kahr and also to see how much better a "throw away" load from the CZ was in the kahr.

the kahr seems to be much more accurate with RN bullets while my CZ loves FP.


cant wait to do more testing. but for now i am out of bullets and primers :)

Welcome to the club!

My CW9 saw a grand total of 75 FMJ commercial rounds at the start but has had nothing but my lead reloads after that (over 2,500 so far). Has digested every single one except for one Wolf primered round that also failed in my CZ Phantom.

Now, go out and get you some more primers and bullets!

Funny thing that reloading inventory, seems your always out of something.

I got lots of primers and powder, now I'm way low on bullets. Go figure.

The more you have the more you load, the more you run out. Vicious circle.

What are you guys and girls paying for primers? My LGS sells LG/SM pistol primers for $40/1000. A bit steep.

I purchase them from Powder Valley. CCI pistol primers for $26/1000 plus the hazmat plus shipping. I'll purchase 5k-10k per order and they end up less than $30/1000

it's not as dire as it sounds, i have about 700 brass cases primed and ready to load, and maybe about 70 bullets.../chuckle

I usually get them 30 - 35 here. If I get more than a 1000 or if it's pouring down rain the guy at the gun show usually gives me a break. I think he feels sorry for me or something.
I do buy 45 Colt brass and most of my primers from him so he's doing ok.

I order bullets on line but try to get primers and powder local, the hazmat fees just kill ya.

A guy from a very good shop 1 1/2 hours away has been having a table at our shows so if I want something I'll let him know ahead of time and he'll bring it down for me. That works out really nice.
With the proper bank account I could fill a trailer every month.

I guess I'm lucky since I found a hobby shop locally where I can get primers for $28/k.

Right now I've got just enough bullets and primers to zero each other out when loaded. Not sure of how that happened.

Primers here at my local reloading shop went up last month to $34.95 per 1000 for CCI (you have to add 8.75% sales tax on to this).

Been trying out the Wolf primers that I got for $25 per 1000 (no tax) at the last gun show I went to. No problems out of 100 loaded for the 45 so far. Had 2 fail to fire in the CW9 out of 200 but one of the two did fire in my CZ Phantom. No problems out of 150 in the revolvers (SP101 and 638). Guy said that if I bought 5,000 the price would drop to $21 per 1000, but I got to call him before the show so that he can have them with him.

When I was at the gun shop buying my 2nd P380 the other day, I saw some brass and checked the price... New Remington(?) .45 acp... $26.99 per hundred! Dang! I bought MFS and S&B 230-gr FMJ in the last 4 months. Got a case of each in two different orders one from Cabelas... without looking, one was $14.99 a box delivered and the other $13.99 a box delivered... with bullets, powder, and primers installed! I hate to leave all of those new cases on the darn range floor!

I regret selling my reloading gear(about 12 years ago), but the way prices are now, I would rather buy new... on the cheap.
