View Full Version : The disassembly marks

Perhaps it is my advancing age, but even with a strong light and my reading glasses, I find the disassembly mark (or notch) on the frame very hard to see. I can see the line on the slide easily. I was thinking of scoring the frame mark a little deeper, or perhaps painting it with something to make it a bit easier to see...maybe some tritium paint? :p

Has anyone else noticed this? Or am I just old and blind? :(

I will admit when I first bought my CW9 i never even noticed the assembly notch. Only when I watched a youtube video for the complete slide disassemble process did I notice

I had cataract surgery a year ago, and while it has improved my distant vision immensely, I literally can't see anything up close now without my reading glasses. When I field strip my CW9 (which is still very new and very stiff) I have a lot of trouble taking out and reinserting the pin unless I have the slide and frame aligned right on the marks, and (to me) they are hard to see well in order to keep them aligned. When they are aligned, though, I can take out and insert the pin easily...much easier than I had expected.

As I said, I can see the mark on the slide, but the frame mark is very hard to see. It seems to be VERY faintly scored.

Probably not the biggest issue of the day, but it is vexing. ;)

agree the frame mark almost dissappeares but again, once u get in the hng of doing it, the marks arenot needed.

My mk9 has a notch in the frame but the slide has NO NOTCH. I guess they forgot about it. It is very easy after a few times to insert the pin through the frame. Even if the slide had the notch I wouldn't use it. I have never put the pin in a pm so maybe the mk's are easier.

If you push the pin with your finger when the slide is aligned, then simply push on the pin as you retract the slide. When aligned, the pin will go in and the slide stop. You can then pull the pin out from the other side as you relieve pressure on it by moving the slide just a bit. I can do it with my eyes closed now.

Perhaps a light scoring or sanding/scuffing of the mark on the frame to remove the gloss common to these pistols at the frame mark, would help. On the slide I just put a little sharpy ink in the notch when I first started, to pop it out. After many so many range trips the mark has now faded, but I have developed a muscle memory for the right spot now.

I don't try to line up the marks. If you pull the slide past the mark alignment point and then push on the pin while you slowly let the slide move forward the pin pops right out at the proper place. Works for me... YMMV.

Good suggestion Planedude. The OP might try using a little white crayon or one of those tire marker sticks on the frame mark (just fill the mark in and wipe the excess off). The tip of a small needle file would probably work to deepen the mark.

I put a chopstick between my teeth, pointy end out, use both hands to move the slide and drop the chopstick in between the barrel and breech face, moving that tapered end in or out until the marks align. Easy. :)

There is a fellow on youtube that does ink lettering on his glocks and springfields, and some of them look pretty sharp. It seems like a bold move, but at the same time very easy. may help you see the notch. I was thinking about using black and filling in my lettering on the CW9

I do about the same as JFootin does. I taped two ice cream sticks together and whittled them down so they would fit in the breach from the top of the gun. Their thickness is perfect to line up the two marks. The spring holds tension on the sticks so I don't have to hold it at the place. The pin comes out easily now. I then pull back on the slide taking the tension off the stick and remove the sticks, pull the trigger and pull forwards on the slide and proceed to clean and oil. I also use the sticks when reassembling the gun but only to start the pin. The slide needs to be moved off of those marks to finish the positioning of the pin to from the 4 to the 3 o'clock final position.
Hope this helps. :)

+1 . . . Works for me! But, not until you have enough rounds through a Kahr to make getting the pin out easy. At first, you might need a hammer, like the guy in the Kahr take down video (http://www.kahr.com/p9-takedown.asp).

I really appreciate the chopstick idea a lot. Gun cleaning generally means 2 eggroll, 1 won ton soup, sweet & sour pork and moo goo gai pan.

I don't see moo goo gai pan on the list, did you just make that up. Some fried rice, shrimp and maybe some pork sounds pretty good about now. Hold the Saki. I'm on duty.

Bawanna how did you miss the Moo Goo? 6th item down in the chicken list.

The local place we like has a beef dish like Moo Goo but with a brown sauce and they serve a chicken dish with the brown sauce as well. It is very similar to the Moo Goo but it has a couple more vegetables including the pickled baby corn.

There's a (halfmoon) cut in the slide that hides behind the slide release lever.
If you tip the gun correctly you'll see it.
I just pull the slide back, and when I see something shiney in that cut, I start pushing on the pin and presto, it pops out.
It's the bump on the lever that must line up with that halfmoon cut, that allows the pin to move.
just sayin'

I looked everywhere and couldn't locate the halfmoon cutout. Then I realised I was looking in the wrong place.
