Do you guys know of anything that would cause mysterious staining on a Kahr slide? I had dark-ish lines (almost like tiger stripes) appear on my K9 slide out of the blue. They literally materialized out of nowhere. One day is was perfect and then something stained it. Even the extractor had the stain on it. I was able to remove the extractor and use a bit of 1200 wet/dry to take care of it but I would not try that on the slide.

The gun was never left on any strange surface, it is not from a holster and it has never been in contact with anything other than Hoppes, gun oil and perhaps a bit silicone spray (which I have always used with no ill effects) but nothing else. The other weird thing is that I can wipe it down with a rag and it disappears...only to re-materialize. Its not that bad and I am not all that worried, just curious. I cannot fathom how a staining could disappear and reappear on the finish. What really made it bizarre was that the same pattern also developed on the extractor... so its not isolated to the slide itself. Oh, and its only on one side.

I cleaned and scrubbed the gun last night, and the stain reappeared

We would really need pictures to say for sure. Sounds like a forced patina I've seen knife makers do on stainless steel using some kind of liquid acid, so my guess is the holster. I know some leather formers are acidic.

I do not have a holster for it yet, no contact with leather. Its been in its case. It has literally not come into contact with anything other than the cleaning/lube products I have mentioned.

*edit

Nevermind, some Weimans Silver Cream took it right off.
