Since I send my PM45 back to its birthplace I felt a little lonely and went to the local range and a S&W M&P shield 9mm caught my eye. It was love on first sight and I took her home. Must be one of the very first models because of the extremely low serial #. I'am gonna shoot her next week. The dimensions are almost alike compared to the Walther PPS. I like the ergonomics of the M&P Shield and the 8 or 7 +1 firepower. Let's see how she works....to be continued!:)

Well, whatever you do, don't try a Bersa UC45. Falling off bandwagons can dangerous! :D

I may be way off base, but it just seems like 3" barrel 45s, regardless of manufacturer, can sometimes have issues.
9mm, 357 & 40 less so.
I've read talk the shield is very similar to Walther's PPS.
Should be a good gun.
Hopefully everything works out with the PM45.
There's a whole new crop of micro 45s coming (Springfield XDs)
For me? My MK40 Elite fills that micro semi big bore role - LOL!
Can't say I don't still get an itch for a micro 45 though - LOL!

I'm looking forward to hearing a range report!
May you have all the same fine shooting experiences with it, as you had with your Kahr!

My friend at work is going to buy a shied (9mm) I went to look at one with him yesterday. We were comparing it to a CW9 and the dimensions are very close.
The shield is a little heavier
CW9 has a little longer barrell 3.5'' vs 3.1'' but CW is a hair shorter in overall length.
Shield has manual safety CW9 none.
Gun feel great in my hand I can't wait to compare it to my CW9 at the range when he gets it. I think they are going to sell a ton of these. My friend is looking for a thin, light single stack 9mm and has never heard of Kahr but owns some S&W guns so he feels comfortable getting one. Many Glock fans who have been begging for a single stack Glock are probably going to jump all over this gun.
Yes...looking forward to a range report Krusty!

Krusty,
I think the chances are you'll like your new pistol even more after shootin it:)
Here's a non shooting comparison of the Shield and the the CW9 done by C&R Reviews:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eHr8oHEuHrw
I had a Shield (sn: DXE382X) for about two days and 350 rounds. Good solid gun, it's well made, reliable, and accurate enough. Easily chambers rounds via slide lock or slingshot. It pointed well and I liked how it preformed when shooting instinctively.
However, I didn't like the trigger or the grip. The trigger breaks clean, but was heavy to me. This made the "let off" very sudden, like pushing against something and it suddenly moves causing you to stumble. There is quite a bit of over travel so I needed to account for that "stumble" when shooting it. To the grip, it was definitely "curl the little finger under" with the flush fit magazine even though the Shield is about the same height as my CW9, which I can get three fingers on. The Shield's extended round magazine provides enough room for three fingers; it also fits well, looks good, and performed without issue. My biggest gripe with the grip, is the shape/position/finish of the trigger guard. It's angular, ridged, and uncomfortable where my top finger curls under it. I actually found it distracting. My next gripe is with the size front to back, it's a little long for me in a Glock 36 kind of way.
Bottom line: my CW9 just works better for me in the same size package, so I've sold the Shield (with very little loss). That said, it worked fine for me (something I can't say about the Nano or DB9). If the trigger and grip work for you I think it could be an excellent pistol for concealed carry.
Regards,
Greg
Here's seven rounds standing at ten yards with the Shield) (sorry about the crappy cell phone photo):

On another note, I'm very pleased with how the SIG P225 mainspring is working out in my P6 (50 round standing at ten yards):

You obviously like your P6, as I did my P225. Great little gun! Unfortunately mine was stolen in the first burglary in August, 2010, and I never replaced it. I was already moving to 45 and bought a P220.

I like my Shield although it's bigger than the PM9. Going to have a little trigger work done on it though.

Melissa? Having trigger work done? hard to believe - LOL!
BTW I still love my Ghost Rocket.
Can't imagine having a Glock with out it.
And I tried the OEM RSA, and my gun sings again!
thanks for your advice and help!
BTW My Storm Lake 4.16" dual ported Isonite QPQ 357 barrel ROCKS!!!

You're welcome, Barth.
Yeah, there is a guy at the range that has M&P's that he's done trigger work on and they are smooth as glass. I'll probably see if he can work on the Shield. If not, then I'll wait for Apex to put out a kit for the Shield.

A kahr P9 or CW9 is about the same size and doesn't need a trigger job. Just saying.

LOL! The Kahr trigger is looooong, but smooth. The Shield trigger is a lot shorter, but you kind of hit a wall and then it's heavy...6.5 lbs.

Sounds like something that could be greatly improved by someone who knows what they are doing. I like a trigger that stages, but would want it a lot lighter. I was just bragging on the Kahr pistols because they never need a trigger job! LOL!

I bought a shield 3 days after they were released...Hit the range with it first time yesterday... I put 320 rounds thru it ,300 FMJ ,WWB and federal 124gr. The other 20 was a box of Speer GD's 124 gr. as well...Trigger is crisp and sure and has a positive reset right out of the box..Comes w/ a 7 and 8 round extended magazines...both worked flawlessly...The feel of the gun is thin, has a great grip and fits my hand like a glove..The lgs here got 18 of them in on 4/17...they were gone within 2 hours..I got the next to last one...Yesterday at the range I had two guys offer to buy it ...I allready own 2 m&p's a 9c and a 45c,and they are awesome guns IMO...The shield in this platform to me is a no brainer...It has a much better trigger than my other m&p's...It's made to shoot and carry and it handles that with ease...Needless to say I lovin' this thing...S&W has a serious winner on their hands here...Just my .02...

I'll test the shield this week.the dimensions are almost identical with the PM45,except the thickness. Both guns fit well in a Desantis inside the waistband holster. The trigger guard on the shield is a bit bigger compared to the PM45, Range report will follow.........:cool:Ii

Forget the Shield!!! I've got 500 dollars burning a hole in my pocket for the new Springfield XDs Slimline 45. Single stack .45 (5+1) with the same controls as my XD45.

Took her to the Range yesterday and startet with 100 rounds 115 fmj followed by200 rounds 124 gr jhp Gold dots and 100 rounds
Winchester Ranger 147gr jhp , she ate everything without a burb. Works like a Singer Sewing Machine, perfect! Very little perceived recoil. I tried to make her fail with limb wristing, rapid fire but she kept going.Shells ejected perfectly too. The shield is a very accurate Pistol and I got consistent groups up to 25 yards. I'm very impressed so far, will update after next outing.

That's great Krusty nice report! So many people love their M&P's I'm not surprised to hear a great report.

I'am reading and posting 100% of my cell phone at this time and it probably dont work to post pics with the phone. One of these days ( time permitting ) I'll sit down on the computer and start with my Avatar first ( baby steps ). One thing I can tell you, the M&P shield is not ugly...
