Under the heading general discussions it says, "Areas for members to discuss items of general interest." No where does it sat that these items need to be gun related. I believe that this is causing some confusion among the ranks. Perhaps some clarification could be employed by the moderators.

#1 states that all discussions should be firearms or shooting related.
That being said, Johnh has generously allowed us to stray a bit, actually quite a large bit in the past mostly on account of myself and several other long time members. He'd never admit it but I think he likes me.
I hope that he allows us to continue to stray and remain flexible as we all agree that if all we talk about is guns we're gonna see a lot of repetition and it might even get dull. (Is that possible?)
Perhaps a better descriptor would be to avoid topics that obviously get emotional. Politics is usually a big one and the cause of many unhappy moments in Kahrtalk history in the recent past. Raising children is a big one too.
General discussion of amusing or funny stuff is probably gonna fly, long as it doesn't cross over those moral and ethical bounds we all know about.
The bottom line is Johnh runs the forum, he makes the calls and sets the pace and policy. The rest of us are guest and if he didn't like me I'm sure I would have been gone long ago.
Anybody think he likes me?

I'm afraid I must plead guilty as charged.
Although I try to connect firearms in some way to all posts.
A really good movie or something is hard to not share with friends.
At the end of the day I hope that's what we all are.

Sorry Bawanna,
you're not pretty enough for that.
I draw the line at a friendly pat on the shoulder,
maybe,
but not twice in one day.
I may have other restrictions as well.....

Still consider myself kinda new to kahr talk and don't know how much my opinion counts, but think it would be an idea to consider having a subforum where people can talk about some other things not necessarily gun related.
I've visited glock talk ( I own one) and the sig forum ( getting one) and was surprised at all the various sub topics ranging from religion, music, hobbies etc.
The only problem I would have with it, is my wife already thinks I spend too much time in "kahrland" as she calls it. :)

I truly hope the boss agrees with me on this but once again I reiterate that we can talk about anything that entertains or we wish to share with other friends/members. Your here, your opinion counts Grotman.
It's the post or threads that are destined to instigate or create controversy that we're trying to avoid.
There is no plan to create a sub forum so people can argue and be rude to each other discussing politics or any of that stuff. There's forums out there where you can do that.
Am I thinking all alone here, maybe it's me.

I'm with you 100%.
Being a little relaxed about topics in the general section is part of what makes
this Forum special.
Not only can I share interesting stuff with my friends.
I know if I've got a problem, or need advise or just need to vent.
This place has friends that can help or at least listen.
And not just about guns.
There's more to life than just guns.
And this forum is more that just a place to talk about them.
This is a place where friends share friend stuff.
That stuff is mostly, but not exclusively, Kahr and gun related.
Personally, I wouldn't change a thing or have it any other way.

This is an area where members can discuss items that don't fall into the other categories we have on the forum. Often times those are not gun related, but the forum rules do state that everything should be gun/shooting related, therefor, any post that is not gun/shooting related does not comply with the rules and CAN be removed if we so choose, but obviously we do not delete them all. That being said, anything that is going to end up causing problems or causes problems will be gone.
We will not be creating free-for-all type sub topics. There are many other forums that have these that members can visit if they want to argue with people on the internet. We do not have the manpower or desire to referee internet fights, therefor we just say NO to them.
I believe this is what makes this forum as popular as it is, and enjoyable for many people to visit. We slacked up a bit recently and things started going to hell. We started to have long time members/extremely valuable members of the forum start to wander because of what we were becoming, so we put an end to it, and will not let it go awry in the future.
Short answer, anything not gun/shooting related is against the rules and can be removed if the mods choose to do so. What goes in general discussion? Pretty much anything you want to discuss, though if it violates forum rules it can be removed....

I participate in a few gun-related forums. This one is the most relaxed -- and I think it's because there's so little bickering by the keyboard commandos. I find myself spending more and more time on this forum and less everywhere else.

having a "free for all" sub-forum is a bad idea from the get-go. To make sure a discussion doesn't reach the point where a federal investigation might be warranted (it happens), there has to be a moderator (or two), or admin (or two) willing to monitor even the most distasteful chatter and be ready to terminate a thread pretty quick, 24/7. That's speaking from experience as one with the control of the "button" elsewhere. And, yes, I agree that a site with nothing but gun talk.... brand specific.... leads to a dead end in a very few years, without the "other guns" sub-forum. The general community chat sub-forum is what normally keeps the "regulars"...."regular", as long as it's geared in the direction this one has been for the last year or so.
I have two Kahr pistols, as well as Rugers, Kimber, Kel-Tec and others. I have no questions to ask about any of mine, and no advice worth adding to anyone elses questions. So, if it's all Kahr talk only, I would have little to ever say. My two Kahrs do exactly what I want them to do - point, click/bang, every time, and I know their limitations. Nothing else to add.
Now I'm rambling, but that's what I do best. When there's nothing else to say, make something up. So, in that light I feel obligated to tell y'all about the three giant 12' long pythons I killed the other day in my son's pond with my new-to-me Super RedHawk (using 44 shot shells). The first two surfaced near the edge of the pond together and I skillfully dispatched both with a single shot. Within 5 minutes a third one came charging right at us and a single shot head on took him out. We waited through the rest of our lunch break and finally had to come back to the office. As I was getting ready to take the shotshells out of the snake slayer I discovered the cylinder was locked up due to one of the shot cups jumping forward. Had there been a fourth giant 12' python attacking, my son would have had to try his Single Action Six with .22 ahot shells, or we would have both been down to our tactical three blade Buck knives to defend ourselves. Well, it's all true, except I meant to say giant 12" long pythons.... and maybe the part about pythons might be wrong... they might have been just plain old water snakes. Whatever they were, they're good snakes now.
o.k. .... back to the basement

Justin did a fine job of saying what I couldn't manage to say myself. That was my thinking but I didn't do to good a job of verbalizing it.
You rock Justin.
Dk, my wife doesn't want me to socialize with you, I think my kid ratted you out as the person that sprinkled I want a 03 sparkles on me.
She'll cool down after a bit and the coast will be clear.
I do hope you continue to hang around here more and those other places less, that's a sure sign that something is going right around here.
An Barth I'm a ok with one shoulder pat a day. That works fine and dandy for me.

Now that's what I'm talking about right there. My pal scared the heck out of me, then made me laugh all in one post, and now there's two more good snakes. What can be any better than that.
I was gonna ask how fast a giant 12' Python can travel compared to me in a fully charged power chair but I guess a good answer would not be forthcoming so I will not bring forth the question.
I do know that I can travel pretty fast to get away from snakes, 12' or 12", don't matter. Almost as fast as escaping Bee's. I do hate bees.

I'm really glad Justin and Bawanna and the rest of you knocked this topic around. It helps a lot.
I am frequently guilty of non-gun stuff and a habitual thread hijacker. If none of that were permitted, even on a "wink wink nod nod" basis, I would likely find other venues to play on. As it is this is my forum of choice and the others I am registered on are my last resort. This place has a friendly relaxed feel. It is appreciated!
mr surveyor,

Dang! The noise level just went up here. The roofers are back for day two. By the end of the day we'll be $10K lighter... or broke! The painters were here last week. Home ownership can be costly! It's a good thing that I had already bought my wife the P380. After AT&T installs U-Verse tomorrow, I might be able to get to the range and shoot the latest Kahr. I've had the slide all the way back for about 2 weeks now and have occasionally racked it a dozen times or so, but I can't tell any difference. I might swap the recoil springs between our two if that seems to help make it easier for Wifey to rack hers.
Dang! I inadvertently let the topic stray to guns... and Kahrs at that!

Exactly the way I feel! I just recently started posting here after having been a Kahr fan and owner for 15 years. I don't post in other gun forums because they don't seem like "home"; this place does.
And I'm glad to see that non-gun, non-controversial posts are ok ;)
