My friend, who has two children like myself, is looking for a .40 caliber concealed gun.
He mentioned an XD, of which I looked at their 9mm version BEFORE I bought my CW9. To me it is a lot easier to swallow than XD prices, it held better, after shooting it, I am glad I bought the Kahr.
So if he has money for an XD, which Kahr .40 call would you guys recommend?
He has BIG hands if that is anything.
I know nothing of Kahr .40 caliber compact hand guns.
Thanks for any help.
Just THINKING about another kahr, and helping him make a little informed decision, makes me want ANOTHER one...
Thanks guys/gals

I don't do .40 at all. Only 9mm. But I would seriously look at a K40 all metal gun. If it shoots anything like a K9, it'll be a pure joy to shoot. If he's got larger hands, he'd get a 3 finger grip. the mass of the metal frame absorbs a lot of recoil. I love my Kahr CM9 but the K9 is a real work of art. Hope that helps.

No it does Tinman. I love your avatar, it makes me want to buy stock in Art Vandelay industries!:)
I like 9mm since rounds are cheaper and it is all about shot placement, but I digress.
No that does help, thanks for that

Kahr 40's tend to be "snappy" IMO. I love my CM9 for off duty. I do carry a G22/27 combo when working, and do not find them snappy at all.'

A lot depends on how your friend intends to carry.
I have an MK40 Elite that I love.
It's a bit heavy for extended pocket carry, but on a belt it's sweet.
And the additional weight makes the 40 a pleasure to shoot.
For pocket carry you're really better off with a Polymer gun.
And IMHO 9mm is better in the lighter platform for fun practicing with.
Kahrs are +P rated and a 124 gr 9mm +P is a good SD round.
As for big hands, maybe a full size gun like the K40 or T40 might better fit the bill.
Good Luck.

If he has big hands, a gun with a double stack mag might make sense. Stoeger makes the Beretta Cougar now, in .40, and their very affordable, The all steel construction makes it slightly heavy though, which in turns makes it a pleasure to shoot. For a lighter gun, the Kahr's mentioned above, an M&P in .40, or one of the smaller Glocks would make sense, and the XD of course. All fine guns.

No one mentioned the CW40 yet. It's too big for the pocket but works well on the belt. It's lighter and thinner than the non-Kahr pistols mentioned. The only reason I stopped carrying mine is that I bought a CW45. I had an M&P compact 40, which is a fine gun, but it became redundant when I got the CW's.

I have a PM40 and the MK40 and love them both, both have been Magnaported and both shoot great! The PM works better for pocket carry and the MK for in a IWB holster.

I know that magnaporting is great for reducing muzzle flip, but what about muzzle flash in low light situations?

Absolutely not a problem with flash......with 3" barell you get flash anyhow.

Some folks really flip out about porting with flash and sound.
Any gun will temporarily blind you at night - ports or not.
And with an adrenalin dump the sound means nothing - ports or not.
With new low flash fast burn gunpowder in SD rounds these days
I didn't even notice any additional flash at the range shooting 357 Sig.
Lots of talk by some folks that really don't know or have experience with porting.

I agree, I swear by porting, makes for better shot placement for me.

Just close your eyes right as you fire. That way, the BG gets blinded and you can still see.;)

waya way to much to do about magna porting. Most people who report the negaives don't even own one. ANY SEMI in low light is gonna have muzzle flash and if u tink a short barrel kahr (any kahr) non ported is not gonna giv eu a muzzle flash that will blow ur ind, then u need to do some shootingat low light. I think Wyn has even posted some photos at anindoor range of a normal kahr and the flash is astounding. U just don't see it that all. I have shot ported gun for over 30 years, my hearing is still good, my eyes are stillgood, no cloths on fire, no nose bown off. Most 9mm kahrs can go without porting but I wll say my PM9 ported is just one smooth sob and my G19 magna ported shoots like the 22 conversion k9it is on it. Accuracy for the second shot for me is great. I never see any flash stuff out of my K9 or PM9 ported. Is porting for everyone???Hell I don't know but those on this fourm who have done it, Ican't remember one of them saying it did not do what was advertised. especially if u have a 40 cal kahr, then u wll appreciate magna porting: Just sayin
If in doubt, DON'T DO IT, u can keep the ported slide and just buy another barrel and be goodto go but u wasted some good money to find out u don't like it for some reason
99.995% of all of us will neverhave to fire our guns in anger, so why not do what tit akes to really enjoy shooting ur gun "otherwise". I doubt if even a BG will eer see the flash for any gun, if the bullet is directed properly, beit muzzle flash or muzzle/porting flash combine. Most of the flash will still come out the end of ur barrel-by far.

Oh Dear Lord, not that...PLEASE
Does that mean his PM9 has 64,000 rounds through it?
He'll need a cork in the muzzle to keep the rounds from tumbling out.

jeepster09, where did you get your holster? It looks very comfortable and the offset clip should help keep everything extremely thin.

It actually was a holster for Kel Tec PF9, a little hot water and re-mold and it fit perfect from Sam's Gunleather on e-bay.

I'm with texiandave on the comparison of the K40 vs. the G23. I shoot my K40 at least as well, if not better than my G23 and the K40 is a whole lot easier to carry IWB.

Personally I do not like the round and stick to 9mm or 45 acp. I would suggest an all metal gun if he is set on 40. For me, polymer 40s are just too snappy.
